No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

It used to be very complicated when I was in charge of a lot of young children. Somehow, it continues to be a mess when most of them are adults.
We took my dad fishing off Cape Canaveral for his 70th. It was a good idea as he died of a stroke the next year.
It was on that trip that I mentioned I wasn’t the best hitter on my little league team and he said, “You should have told me. I could have given you some pointers.”
He had obviously never been to one of my games. I think in this day and age he’d be accused of child neglect.
Dad showed up in his Deputy Sheriff’s uniform to a couple of my concerts. My parents chaperoned the orchestra New York trip my Senior year.
He wasn’t always there, but always was when I needed him to be.
He’s had a couple of strokes and heart attacks over the years. He doesn’t trust himself in the boat alone and thinks this may be his last year on the river.
We’re all trying to make sure it isn’t...
Yes, you never know what may happen... I have sine regrets that I didn’t make more of an effort to see/call my parents before they passed away, but I suppose that I did the best that I could at the time...
I think of my father very often as I still use some of the hand tools that were his, and some that were his father’s, in the shop pretty regularly...

After Mrs. ArGee and I did our watering duties yesterday we got an inch of rain. If we had only known. There’s more foreguessed for today. There are still a lot of droopy trees in our area so we must need a lot more.
What did I say yesterday about being spotted lots of letters in Wordle and still needing multiple guesses to get the word? I should have kept my mouth (keyboard) shut.

I can do some of the prep work today. Get the rear tire off, clean up the brakes, that kind of thing.
Need the new tire, bearings, bearing puller... to put it all back together though.
One of the more interesting thing about working with a large cohort of people from India is all the English-isms that we never use that they still do.
I just saw an email saying, “Please find the documents you requested attached herewith.”
You don’t read “hearwith” very often.
One side effect of school getting cranked back up is that everyone with kids comes back from vacation and commuting becomes a real slog.
The next phase will be when the local universities begin Fall semester, and all the local kids who still live at home join the morning throng.

Resolving car things is more money than I want to spend.
Can’t get a set of tires for $600, these days; plan for $900 at least, unless there’s a sale that just happens to include tires that fit your car at the same time you need them.
Zelle limits differ from one bank to another, and I’ve heard some banks actually are reasonable. Mine’s not. Presumably they have in mind sending the odd $100 to a child away at college. They certainly aren’t thinking of anybody using the service to transact real business; it’s like little kid banking the way they’ve got it clamped down.

Won $5 off my Son over the word ostrobogulous. He was convinced I’d made it up.
I’m a huge fan of Shakespeare, so his misapprehension was somewhat warranted. The Bard was famous for inventing new words/phrases.
