Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Oh! Look at all the fluff!

I know it is probably a trap, about 50% of cats seem to like belly rubs and about 50% hate them, but I still want to rub that belly.

Kitty is as pretty as sun on new fallen snow.

And yes the sun is shining here for the first time in about two weeks. It will be gone in about 90 minutes but for a couple of hours today we will have seen the Yellow Face!

Good morning. Happy Monday!

Hanukkan kitteh needs one of those caps.

It’s trash day. Our recycle bin blew over during the night. Fortunately, I didn’t find much on the ground. I got it stood back up in time for the truck to come by.

We didn’t get much snow from this horrible storm. It’s cold, though. But it is in single digits in the town we moved out of, so I’m glad we’re here.

I thought I was going to skid off the end of the Wordle runway today.

To: ArGee; All

Good Monday Morning!

We had our coldest overnight of the season, got down to 25° F... a brief cool down, starts warming up today...

This one was only a tad better than the 6 I got on Saturday...

I think he was a real meathead in life, but I’m sorry to see that Rob Reiner died.

Yet another of the people I watched on TV as a child is gone.

All that said, the lyrics to the song Sunshine, also come to mind.

And he can’t even run his own life
I’ll be damned if he’ll run mine

Hollywood people have a warped perspective

But still, I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.

It’s a Monday again... 18 degrees today after a frigid weekend. Might hit 40 on Wednesday... Need to do some vehicle maintenance if it does. Slow leak in one tire of the Caddy, one of my trucks needs the oil topped off periodically, etc...

Garage cleaning on Saturday. Had a lotta cardboard boxes from moving and shipping things. Broke all that down and now I have a 15” stack of cardboard rectangles about 3ft square. Need to find out what my trash haulers will take. I think if I just tie it in a bundle they’ll pick it up.

Failing that, I’ll puzzle it all together into a single multi-ply lamination and cut it into a 2’x4’ rectangle. I have an idea for putting a raft of built up HO-scale railroad stuff into fairly regular service; at the Holidays, if nothing else. What’s Christmas without a train??

Anyway... next weekend, I’ll advance the project some more. There’s a dresser with a mirror that deserves to be indoors. Then I’ll have space for my son’s Birthday/Christmas present.

His Mom found a commercial grit-blasting cabinet with the powered media recovery unit — an $8,000 machine, as I’m led to understand — for $250. He’s done etched glass work, before, and this will give him an additional crafting tool for his creative pursuits.

After an 0/2 start, I finally got a piece of this Wordle, and closed it out in 5. Tricksy it was.
