The number of people in Japan aged 100 or older has hit a record high of more than 95,000 - almost 90 per cent of them women - government data showed on Tuesday (Sep 17).
The figures further highlight the slow-burning demographic crisis gripping the world's fourth-biggest economy as its population ages and shrinks. As of Sep 1, Japan had 95,119 centenarians, up 2,980 year-on-year, with 83,958 of them women and 11,161 men, the health ministry said in a statement.

So glad to hear that you’ve still got your mom. It’s a tough time when a parent is on a down slope and so sorry about the tough time she’s having. Hope that her health improves again and that you can have a longer time to share more of her stories and memories. They’re precious.
Definitely good genes!
The Japanese are incredible even if more than 40,000 elderly die alone in their homes each year and are discovered decaying sometimes many months later. The loneliness and death not seen or heard of only to be reported much later is the downside of these amazing people.

Men die first because they want to no nagging.
No wonder Pall Mall sales are high there.
amen sister! that’s exactly what I do although sometimes I jump to 25mg just to pulse dose. People are VERY ignorant when it comes to how important iodine is for your health. Especially doctors...dumb as hell!
So maybe nuclear radiation is GOOD for you?
One is enough.
Gee it’s almost as if something took place that would have gotten a lot of young Japanese men killed back in the 1940s.
