Mississippi's 2024 alligator hunting season got off to a whopping start when a team of six hunters reeled in one of the largest monsters ever caught in the state.
The 14-foot-long, 802-pound alligator was caught in the Yazoo River, which stretches over 2,000 miles through Mississippi and Louisiana.
The group stood proudly with their catch for photographs, and all six were needed to hold up the lifeless creature.
The yearly hunt kicked off last month and is set to run until September 9, allowing participants to take home their prize for 'wallets, belts and eating,' according to state rules.

The group reeled in the alligator last week in the dead of night. Officials determine the creature measured 14 feet long and weighed over 800 pounds

Bruh! Dat liddle gator?
“That alligator was measured at 14 feet three inches long. It was weighed in at 802.5 pounds and according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife it had a belly girth of 66 inches, that’s more than five feet around, y’all. It was a state record for Mississippi. The Louisiana record is a little bit larger, it currently stands at 19 feet two inches and an estimated weight of nearly a ton.
According to the Biloxi Mississippi Sun Herald Newspaper, the ‘gator was captured this past Saturday, August 26th, 2023. It bested the old state record by a couple of inches and almost 50 pounds.”

Just like turtles, snakes, lizards, and crocodiles... alligator meat and jerky can be quite delicious if properly prepared. Personally, I had to give the jerky up because the sodium content in prepackaged alligator snacks have too much sodium. It is hard enough to find unsalted potato chips. Just try to find low sodium alligator jerky. It doesn't exist

These have almost twice as much sodium per ounce as salted potato chips.
