I know many folks don't like it when someone creates a thread using a Youtube video as the source, and doesn't give a synopsis about what it's about, but I wanted to post this one because I think it speaks to the times we now live in.
Long and short, he says that when evil takes over, rural living is not much safer then living in the city and he lays out the reasons why. It's a good listen if you got the time. Share your thoughts.
Thanks all.
Us Redneck Hillbillies actually look forward to the collapse.
And, by the way, we are optical illusions. We are not quite as dumb as we look. 😁
"Picture" my a$$. I live in a mixed woodland.
And the road leading to that area will have twenty or thirty houses along the way.
No, five houses in two miles.
And by the time the Truck of Illegals gets half way there, they are going to be stopped. And asked what their business is.
Oh please, the driveways are so long and the woods so thick they wouldn't see or hear them. Three have locked gates. Others (such as ours) don't.
And they are, if they are smart, going to quietly turn around and go back to your apartment.
You are completely out to lunch.
My neighbors are so used to gunshots at all hours that it would be nothing unusual. Besides, they are a half mile away.
After six months, will you have gas for the truck? Where will you get parts to keep things running?
And, by the way, we are optical illusions. We are not quite as dumb as we look.
I have not determined if that's true or not.
Second sensible reply I've received on this thread. I'm getting the impression of a bunch have no concept for "rural."
We live fairly rurally in central MA. It’s safe. If anyone ever broke into our house I wouldn’t even be able to get to my rifle before our 140 pound male Great Pyrenees would rip them apart.
I’m not worried.

“they are going to go to where the food comes from.”
Likely on foot though
Stay independent- grow your own, raise your own and stay out of kill zones unless fully strapped, loaded and locked (the proper term incidentally).
Friend from long ago has a song— for some Sunday reflection with or without church:
“The City”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ao7u6XRPg_o
“But satisfaction brought him back!”
Historically speaking in the middle ages in Europe, farmers lived in “small” clusters of homes for protection. The farmers went out from the village early in the morning and came home from the fields at night. This provided communal protection from bandits and others.
Generally these small villages were well under 200 people. This is about the upper limit on the number of people that an adult can recognize on sight as friend or foe. Knowing who someone is means that if they do something wrong, they can’t hide. Also, know if someone “doesn’t belong” within the village allows people to follow them and be suspicious of them.
The real key to rural safety (at least historically) has been having enough people to protect against outsiders, knowing who is within your group and who is an outsider. Guard animals (dogs, geese, etc.) can also provide a good early warning system.
“Likely on foot though”
True that. My guess is that grid power to the cities would be cut to immobilize most of the bad actors. Internet and phone service would be shut down, too.
😁
Who needs to travel?
With hundreds of Amish neighbors and lots of horses, we will manage.
Unless you know how to farm and can defend your land, it won’t be safer.

The videographer said it best when he eluded to the attempt on Trump’s life. In an instant it could have been all over for Trump if the shooter’s aim was right. The same is true for anyone else. In this country, if there is a guy with a gun concealed in a tree who wants to take you out it can be all over at the crack of his rifle. Trump was lucky, but it doesn’t work out that way very often. No, when your government turns against you, you are pretty much screwed. The J-6’ers are living proof of that. The absolute last stop in any society are the patriotic military warriors, the gatekeepers. If these men and woman sit on their behinds or, worse, turn against their own countrymen and abandon their citizens, then the Devil comes out as it has in Venezuela. One thing that is markedly different here than in Venezuela is the private ownership of firearms, but a takedown of a corrupt government would still be futile unless it begins with a military coup to get the ball rolling. The Commies know this. That is why Biden so pompously threatened us by saying our weapons were no match for his F-18s. Obozo also knew this and that is why he conducted a wholesale purge of the ranks of senior officers during his second tour and replaced them with those holding Marxist ideologies. The rest of our service patriots have been labeled terrorists. However, if the need arises there remains hope that one good officer would step forward to lead the charge, perhaps from the team that drafted Trump. Let’s hope that if Trump gets in and Vance follows him in office, it will not have to go kinetic. With an established propensity of the Commies to cheat in past elections and to operate on a philosophy of keeping control by any means necessary, it’s scary as to how precarious the situation now is.
Depends on the rural area.
I have a relative who lives on a small farm. The fields are behind the house, neighbor is just across the road, with more neighbors and non-farming homes along the road. About a dozen households within 100 yards.
That was my thought. I don’t think of thugs in the city as much as empty shelves in the stores, roads blocked for free travel, no water or power…the country usually has alternatives for water sources, game, and fuel for warmth and cooking. We have pigs, chickens and a huge garden as well as a wood burner for cooking, baking and warmth. Most thinking people would prefer being in the country scrounging for food than in a large metropolitan area. They said the Romans ate cats in Rome during WWII to stay alive. Be prepared.
Or read up on the “Hongerwinter” in The Netherlands in 1944-5.
Houlton is major drug
My point precisely.
In rural areas, we have a early-warning system in the animals. Birds, squirrels, and other wild animals act differently when strangers are about or danger is near.
A pickup truck, a tarp and a dark mountain road with a deep gulch is all you need.
