Counting Down my iTunes Play Count (VANITY) – Day #4
AC’s iTunes Directory | 8/8/2024 | Alberta's Child

Posted on 08/08/2024 9:05:29 AM PDT by Alberta's Child

Day #3 of the Top 50 songs on my iTunes playlist -- ranked in reverse order by play frequency from #50 to #1 and presented here on a series of FR threads. I'm posting them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the next couple of months. I only post them on weekdays and may miss a day or two here and there, so it will take at least ten weeks to do this.

And to show my gratitude to the FR management for giving us all a forum to post vanity threads like this, I'll be making a contribution for the current quarterly fundraiser. I would encourage everyone on these threads to do the same! :-)

Have fun with this, folks!

(One thing I noticed last week is that there was a tie at the end of the list for #50, so there will actually be 51 songs on 51 threads here.)

#48 -- Bagpipe Medley by the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band ... Click Here (YouTube version)

One of the entries on this list that's a bit on the eclectic side. This was the winning performance at the 2009 World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. 15 years later and they still talk about it as one of the best ever.

To the man who can play the bagpipes, but doesn’t, I say Thank You!

I have thousands of songs on my iTunes, but I seldom listen to them because of my other options like SiriusXM and Apple Music. I thought iTunes was on the way out. It might become unsupported. Are there any alternatives where I could switch my iTunes library?

TIA for any suggestions. I am naïve in this area.

*That’s* what you call “eclectic.” Placing things like this in a shuffle is what makes music listening so much more pleasurable.

That’s not a bad one for a Top 50 in a music mix!

If you subscribe to Apple Music (about $10 a month), your iTunes library will get uploaded to the Apple cloud.

I have several thousand songs I recorded off radio shows and other sources that are not available in the iTunes library but they all uploaded successfully so I have some backup with regard to that.

I like bagpipe music and Celtic music in general. One of my favorite radio shows is Larry Kirwan's "Celtic Crush" broadcast weekly on the Sirius Loft channel.

I do not have this particar recording of "Bagpipe Medley" by Simon Fraser University Pipe Band. My #48 song in terms of plays in Apple Music is Lobo's "Me And You And A Dog Named Boo" which is also a curious tune to be the most played out of the many thousands of songs I have.

THat particular song brings me back to a time in the early 1970s when I was about 10 years old and it's always been a favorite since. It's in a playlist of mine that I play often that includes a lot of early 1970s "sunshine pop" like Partridge Family, Cowsills, and Mamas and Papas.

I’ll catch up with you:

#50: The Rapper - Jaggerz
#49: Funky Nassau, Pt. 1 - The Beginning of the End
#48: Bend Me Shape Me - American Breed
#47: Guitar Man - Bread

“Guitar Man” is one of those that started out original, then I-tunes slipped in a cover version that is close enough to fool untrained ears, but not as good. Of all the things they’ve done, this irks me the most. I did not pay for a fake.

Outstanding. I haven't heard that in years; I just listened to it about a half-dozen times in a row!

That’s very interesting. I have no idea if iTunes is being phased out. As long as I have these MP3 and MP4 files and an iPod where I can store them, I hope they last forever!

Excellent selection. Interesting tidbit about “Guitar Man.” Did iTunes really slip in a cover version, or is it a remixed original? I have come across a few of those.

I'm going to take a page from you and start posting my most played iTunes, to keep up with Alberta's Child. Looking forward to his future posts as we move towards #1.

#50 - Jack's Mannequin - The Lights And Buzz (2005)
#49 - The Cars - It's All I Can Do (1979)
#48 - Lobo - Me And You And A Dog Named Boo (1971)

I messed up. My play list has numerous duplicates, and that skews my selection by about ten songs out of the first fifty. So . . . after some tedium here are 50 through 45:

50 Letter From Home - Pat Metheny Group
49 Koffee Kup - Uncle Art
48 If It Feels Good (Then It Must Be) - Leon Bridges
47 Bigger the Punch I’m Feeling - China Crisis
46 Love’s the Way I Feel About Cha - Alphonso Johnson

It will be interesting to see the other submissions as they will help me to expand the listening.
