“They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum

And they charged the people a dollar and half to see them…

They paved paradise and put in a parking lot.”

Ignorance is strength.
Trees cause air pollution.

I’m calling BS on the good professor.

But urban green spaces also play an underappreciated role in absorbing atmospheric CO2 and in combating global warming, according to a new Columbia study of vegetation in New York City. On a typical summer afternoon, the researchers discovered, the trees, shrubs, flowers, herbs, and grasses in New York’s five boroughs collectively absorb more than 40 percent of the city’s total CO2 emissions.

“That’s a much larger impact than we expected to see,” says atmospheric chemist Róisín Commane, who led the research team at the Columbia Climate School’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

“We already knew that street trees had this great benefit of cooling and providing shade,” she says. “That they’re also inhaling enormous amounts of CO2 is an added bonus.”

One of the few undeniably true things about global warming is that concrete jungles (i.e., big cities—where Democrats predominate) are heat sinks that are a good bit hotter than surrounding rural areas. Trees would help mitigate that.

But, nooooooo....Plant more concrete.

“Trees gotta go - “

Since you didn’t read your OP:

——————3rd paragraph-————

“We’re all for planting more trees. They bring so many good things,” said study coauthor Róisín Commane, an atmospheric chemist at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. “But if we’re not careful, we could make air quality worse.”

When Reagan made the same point about trees not always helping air quality, the Left and the news media derided him as an ignoramus. Protesters showed up with signs denouncing him for believing in “killer trees.”

“There is no reason to think that trees don’t play a role in what’s in the air,” said lead author Dandan Wei, of the local Columbia Climate School. “We just didn’t have the tools before this to understand this particular aspect.”

NONSENSE>

They've known for years which trees release what.

The Great Smoky Mountains is proof of that.

Planting oaks near homes is a BAD idea anyways.

My son has a big, old one at the end of his driveway and it’s one of the messiest trees I’ve ever seen. I would have chopped it down for firewood years ago if I were him.
