Aerosmith retires from touring, says Steven Tyler’s voice can’t recover from injury

So much for Aerosmith’s farewell tour.

The band announced they are retiring from touring after five decades together, revealing their legendary lead singer Steven Tyler’s voice can’t recover from his injury.

“It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history,” their Instagram post read on Friday.

“It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives.”

Tyler has been suffering from ongoing vocal cord and larynx problems that the 76-year-old singer can’t bounce back from.

“We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing. As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage,” the statement continued.

The iconic rock band made sure to give credit where it was due: their inner circle and fans.

“We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time. Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible.

54 years. That's a damn pretty good run.

They've seen it all. The gutter, fame, fortune, the gutter again, redemption. And through all of that, they've given us some great rock and roll.

Even their most drug-drenched trainwreck of an album "Night in the Rutz" (1979) is an order of magnitude greater than virtually 99.9% of the garbage that's being released today.

Great run! Great job, Toxic Twins! Enjoy your well-earned retirement!

You've earned it.

Karma finally got him. It took a couple of years, but firing your drummer without notice right at the beginning of a Vegas gig was a nasty thing to do, Steven.

What exactly happened to Steven Tyler’s vocal chords?

This is the guy whose (illegitimate) daughter (of whose existence he had had absolutely no knowledge until she, in her late teens, approached him) played the "love interest" in "Armageddon" and an elfin princess in "Lord of the Rings," right?

I wonder how many other illegitimate children he has spawned. He probably doesn't know, himself.

Regards,

True, I’d rather see Aerosmith live while they’re on a 4-day drunk than any rap or hip-hop today.

Aerosmith was America’s response to the Stones.

They’re a zillion times better than the Stones, too.

I love their music, but they were one of the worst live performances I ever saw. They were all still drinking and Tyler couldn’t finish the set. Jeff Beck came on and filled their time.

And he owned the entire stadium. It was at Comiskey Park for one of the old Monsters of Rock events.

Liv Tyler was on one of my flights to Maui back in the 90s. The manifest showed her as Liv Rundgren, so Todd Rundgren had adopted her. He was living on Maui at the time. Had another guy on a Maui flight who was going there to work with Rundgren.

I saw them at least three times. Good shows, but then haven’t really had any good music since the 1980s. All that pop-rock trash they did later was horrible. Their best was their earliest, of course.

Had tickets to see them (again) last November. Ticket prices were approaching stupid Taylor Swift levels so i decided to get a refund when Tyler blew out his larynx and the show was rescheduled to later this year.

Paid $10 to see him perform about 10 years ago when a wealthy tech guy arranged a private concert for his employees.

An imitation of The Rolling Stones. But you have to hand it to them for longevity.

Yes, Liv Tyler. She was flavor-of-the-month once.

Tyler was born Liv Rundgren on July 1, 1977, in New York City [...] She is the only daughter of Bebe Buell, a model, singer, and former Playboy Playmate (Miss November 1974), and Steven Tyler, the lead singer of Aerosmith. [...] From 1972 to 1979, Buell lived with rock musician Todd Rundgren. In 1976, Buell became pregnant from a brief relationship with Steven Tyler. She gave birth on July 1, 1977, naming the daughter Liv Rundgren and claiming that Todd Rundgren was the biological father because Tyler was in the middle of his well-documented drug excesses. - Wikipedia

...as you do.

I dunno... Maybe if the father of my child were a convicted serial killer, I'd suppress the truth about paternity - but because of mere "drug excesses?!" 95% of all rock stars would instantly qualify for that!
