When I was young, back in the Dark Ages (the mid 70s), I would stop at the nearby Taco Bell after getting off of work from Sears. I would order two bean burritos with green sauce instead of red sauce and extra onions, and a mexi-melt. The price was 87 cents.

Today that same meal (yes, they will still make mexi-melts if you ask nicely) would be about $10.

“Can’t talk to a machine and special order ……”

I used Wendy’s AI two weeks ago and it took mine with no errors. Large screen updated quickly as I ordered.

Yesterday a person took my order substituting root beer for orange soda.

Besides, the AI system speaks and understands good English.

I know you’re a capable guy so I think you maybe just got a little frustrated.

The McDonald’s kiosk interface is considered in the industry to be highly successful and efficient. The one criticism I have is that the vertical aspect is too large — you end up having to scan up and down to different parts of the display, straining your neck on the process. And I imagine that bifocal users have an extra challenge, but OTOH I have seen some very elderly people using the kiosks.

My healthcare facility has started using these things as well.

I just tell them I need a person to do it as I can’t see well enough to do it.. Which is a true statement. My brain won’t adjust to progressive bifocals. (which someone pointed out may be because I slightly tilt my head to the side to find center).

Usually people help with no problem but every once in a while someone harumphs.

Are you referring to order entry or order fulfillment?

I take it you are ranting without ever using the system. At Wendy’s your order is displayed on a screen as you talk giving you the opportunity to correct as needed.

I don’t trust humans lol

In my own experience, the AI interfaces have been amazingly capable at understanding user input, even when filled with typos and poor wording (like I say, personal experience lol).
