Euthanasia is becoming legalized across the Western world. Pat McGeehan, Delegate of West Virginia, is fighting against it. Advocates employ slogans like “death with dignity,” and appeal to compassion; but, the actual results are much different.
Already, a “suicide tourism” phenomenon has begun, with people flying to states like Oregon to get legal doctor-assisted suicide. Pat tells a story of one of his constituents who, tragically, was a victim of this. Likewise, Canada’s MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) program has resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 people since 2016; with legislation only being passed recently to curb the amount of suicide tourism.
By legalizing euthanasia, the door is open for gross misuse: the elderly who feel they are a burden to their children could be pressured into an untimely death, people with treatable illnesses could elect to end their lives, hospitals and health insurance providers could increase euthanasia recommendations to patients to decrease costs.
But, Pat is fighting for the dignity of his constituents in West Virginia. Euthanasia denies the dignity of the person; Pat is working to uphold that dignity by constitutionally banning euthanasia in the state of West Virginia.

I have seriously mixed feelings about voluntary euthanasia. If an adult in full mental capacity sees a painful end coming, then it seems they should have the choice to avoid it. The problem is that that assumes the best motives on everyone’s part.
Caregivers can influence those for whom they’re caring. How can you really tell those people who make a decision in their own best interest, and those people who are nudged gently, or not so gently, in that direction for the best interests of the care giver?
Until I can work out that question in my own head, I won’t vote for voluntary euthanasia, as I didn’t in MA.
The state has no business legalizing suicide or permitting the death industry. This really tweaks libertarians but that’s the way it is. If they’d only think it through once they’d see. It cannot ever possibly have a just end.
There is no dignity in wasting away from terminal cancer or ALS, people should have that choice. We are not a theocracy.
Disagree, but that’s what discussions are all about.

Democrats, suburban women, President Trump, and even some Freepers want to allow States to legalize the killing of unborn children.
Doctors should not kill people.
IMHO, it is a sin to insist that we know better than God does. We do not know better than He does.
We are not God. We cannot see the purpose in pain, but He does. We see bits and pieces. He sees it all. If He says we should suffer, for whatever reason, then perhaps we should go along with it, if we are to be obedient.
Even His own Son, Jesus Christ, suffered for us, out of obedience. And we are all the better off for His Sacrifice.

What’s ridiculous is that there are pain meds to help people with terminal cancer that causes pain. And yet, doctors have their hands tied about prescribing enough to terminal patients under the pretense that the terminal patient MIGH T become addicted.
SO WHAT??????
And here liberal hellholes are handing out free drugs and drug paraphernalia to addicts so they can do drugs *safely*.
And they’re worried about the person becoming addicted, but not worried about murdering them?
The hypocrisy is staggering.
The left is not interested in helping anyone or improving anyone’s lot in life.
All they want is what their father below wants, to kill, steal, and destroy.

You pinpoint a massive problem with drugs for the terminally ill. And you’re absolutely right. You describe both sides of the problem perfectly. The insanity of restricting enough pain meds for those who need it and the insanity of giving meds to the people who need to be weaned off of them to have a full and satisfying life.
Wish you were in charge instead of the idiots who make such decisions now.
