We may have just witnessed THE most incredible eight consecutive days in contemporary America from a political standpoint.
Since July 13 the Nation - nay, World, has seen:
- assassination attempt on Trump,
-Biden asks for calm, then calls Trump a threat to democracy,
-Judge tosses out the “documents” case, declaring Jack Smith’s appointment was unconstitutional,
-RNC convention with Trump appearance with bandaged ear,
-Secret Service under fire,
-Biden rambles thru a Lester Holt interview that digs a deeper hole,
-Dems from Pelosi on down demand Biden steps aside from the nomination,
-Vance selected as VP candidate,
-Biden comes down with Covid, retreats to Delaware,
-Trump delivers a magnificent Presidential acceptance speech,
-Biden surrenders the Dem nomination, recommends Harris gets the nomination.
And I’m skipping over a lot of stuff.
With the possible exception of
-Lee’s surrender/end of the Civil War on April 9 and Lincoln getting shot by Booth on April 14 and dying April 15, 1965, or
-Kennedy’s assassination/LBJ taking the oath November 22, Oswald’s arraignment on November 23, Jack Ruby kills Oswald November 24, and the funeral on November 25, 1963,
I can’t think of anything that comes close. And those weren’t “political” in the same sense as the past eight days.
People can probably come up with political events like this but I sure cannot. Been a very surreal week.
Old saying by political pros “A week can be a very long time in politics”.
We sure have seen that to be true this week.
And I thought DT was the “threat to Democracy”. Installing Kamala as the candidate is circumventing Democracy. THAT is an active threat to democracy.
Yes, but I think you can stretch it back to the debate for the most incredible 3+ weeks. That was clearly the beginning of the end for team Biden, IMHO.
What is different is huge things happening in both political parties on the eve of a Presidential election.
I was just saying these past 8 days have been stunning. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’m 65.
Anyone old enough to remember Nixon’s resignation?
RFK’s assignation was probably like this. He was odds on favorite to be the Dems candidate when he was killed June 5th 1968
There were breaks between the debate and these past 8 days. This has been consecutive.
You are right, i would have included the CrowdStrike computer hit. Which brought down banks, airlines etc. l put that with the political stuff because of who is in bed with CrowdStrike. I don’t think we know what that actually was…yet.
Anyone think he really has Covid??? Me either.
It’s enough to make me wonder what it’s like in Switzerland.
Saw a short video of Melania’s face at the convention....she was trying to hold back tears. These are frightening times....especially for her.
You left out the best: Biden does catastrophically bad in his debate with Trump. That is when it began to unravel for one-punch Joe.
It’s been an incredible 8 days.
Assignation with whom?
My take too. The whole rotten facade unraveled and creaked, and suddenly it all fell apart. Trump is now sitting with a bandage on his ear watching Dementia Joe shuffle out the door and the Dems in disarray like an anthill that has been kicked over and he has to be wondering what the hell is going on. And if he isn't, I am.
This is the New Cheat, not like the Old Cheat.
The Democrats had “Superdelegates” before all this, too. There’s nothing democratic about a Democrat.
The first pre-convention debate ever (I think).
Many were saying it was a trap for Sleepy Joe.
Looks like the pundits who said so were right.
They obviously didn’t give him the amphetamine shot.
