How can you tell ahead of swimming that there are alligators lurking? Is there a method?

Gotta have situational awareness of the FR Lurkers, too.

There isnt much creepier than swimming in the black waters of swamps and Florida rivers. I used to SCUBA dive in springs in Florida back in the 70’s. Some we would drift with the spring flow for a few miles enjoying looking for fossils or just the crystal clear water. Then at some point you would get close to the river, and from under water it looked like you were about to run into a black wall. That’s where I exit the water. Your mind just knows as soon as it goes black, there’s a gator waiting for you. LoL.

Rachél Thompson said she went for a morning run and decided to take a dip in the river... I think I see the problem.

Yet you decided to take a dip. Smart.

“pulled herself up back onto her dock.”
She lives there, and has a dock, and swims there?
This is one dumb broad.
I have to shoo the gators off my dock, just to get into my skiff. I’m not going to wade or swim there.

While wildlife officials say attacks by alligators are rare in Florida, they remind people to always be aware of their surroundings and not go into bodies of water where alligators are known to lurk. As a former Floridian for over 40 years, that would be EVERY body of water big enough to hold an alligator, including deep puddles...I'm not kidding.
