Time to speculate

Posted on 07/18/2024 11:06:35 AM PDT by DrHFrog

I'm pretty sure almost all of us here believe the days of Biden's candidacy are very short. I'm equally sure the Dems realistically have no option other than elevating Kamala Harris to be their nominee, no matter how distasteful that may seem. As this seems obvious, who would y'all speculate she (OK we know it's really Obama, Schumer, and Pelosi making these calls) will pick to board her Titanic for the cruise to November? Since they can not tap their reelection kitty unless Kamala is the one, would she tap Michelle, knowing the populace would see this as "historic" with two Black women on the ticket? Would she pick a white male like Governor Beshar to counter JD Vances Appalachian heritage and story? Certainly Newsom would be smart enough to run for such a Quixotic offer. It seems to me that figuring out who would be crazy enough to run with Kamala might be more problematic than getting rid of Biden.

Interesting idea, but I think Kamala is looking at this as the only chance she will ever have to grab the brass ring of power, she is so close...

Obama is not eligible to be President again, so therefore is ineligible to be VP. A person who is ineligible to be President may not be named as a VP candidate.

If they tried this, I’m quite sure it would fast track to the Supreme Court, who I think would pick it up, and make a very quick decision against Barack Obama.

I can not argue with that logic... the only way they could avoid the uproar of dropping Kamal as VP nominee is to nominate Michelle then run of what we all know is a vote for Biden is a vote for the VP nominee. Michelle winning puts Barack back in charge as much as he is now.

I'm pretty sure almost all of us here believe the days of Biden's candidacy are very short.

I am not so sure. When you sell your soul to the devil, and you know Hell awaits in six months or next week, you generally wait the six months.

I am assuming that the political will does not exist to assert the 25th Amendment, because key players are not all on board. The Amendment assumes rational actors behaving based on objective reality, not completely reliant on political conditions.

What does Biden have to gain by dropping out? LBJ did it gracefully in 1968, so he could have some leverage to get Humphrey instead of McCarthy. Biden has NO leverage once he quits. He will be like an unloved, feeble version of Pope Benedict XVI, only with Secret Service Protection. If he doesn't step down, that is all he will hear about for four months. If he does step down, the lawfare will be incoming instead of outgoing. He would go down grouped only with Nixon as the guy who quit.

Let's say there is a 100-1 shot that Trump himself gets pancreatic cancer, or the next bullet debilitates him (God Forbid), or he can be convincingly indicted for something that hurts him. That's enough hope for Biden to hang on. If you forfeit, the odds go from 100,000 to 1 to nothing. Right now, Biden has a better chance of being installed as president next year than any of us posting. Sad, but true.

Biden is about Biden. Not only does he not really have much care for anyone but himself and maybe his immediate family, but his perception of his legacy is certainly warped, and some sycophants will be happy to feed him his preferred version, if only to stay on the payroll for six months.

Why should he quit. He will take his personal Hell later.

They will put Michelle Obama in as VP, for an unprecedented, not one, but two Black women ticket.

Then The Dems will assassinate Kamala, blame it on a MAGA person who was directed by Trump to assassinate Kamala (without providing as iota proof that any of that occurred because they know the press will run with the story 24 x 7 and the gullible people will accept the narrative.). Then installing someone else for the top of the ticket. Michele steps down so that Hillary can take the VP.

Obama won't mess with the family branding. He's set.

*Any Democrat who has presidential aspirations down the road wouldn’t be caught dead running with Kamala.*
Very good.

*I think they’re going to toss the whole ticket and go for the Big Mike with some flunkie as VP.*
That could work but not a winner. She campaigns for a short time only and cashes in on her entitlement either as an author or puppet POTUS.

Too many moving parts, but the Harris/Mobama ticket is a definate possiblity, hoping to use the Obama name to boost Kamala into position for the cheat to be plausible.

Add to all that the fog of eligibility that a bunch of attorneys are going to stir up. Its going to be an ongoing chit show. I’m still sticking to my prediction that the election gets postponed.

My take is that 2 people, especially women, would be a big turn off to many voters.

They could pick a no-body dim like Nadler.

They would lose of course but at least they would get Harris out of the way ... and ...would that not take care of the campaign money that is tied to Harris?

...
They don’t expect to win no matter who they pick

Kamala is the one, would she tap Michelle?

Been saying this for a month. She's lazy and does not want to work but loves the limelight. VP would be perfect do nothing job for her. The reasons you listed are good but I would also add that it would keep Barak Obama in the WH with his death grip on power.

If they loose they will claim that it just shows how raisist America is.

She could pick Hillary — but I don’t know if Kamala has a death wish.

Obama is not eligible to be President again, so therefore is ineligible to be VP. A person who is ineligible to be President may not be named as a VP candidate.

Perhaps you're right. Here's the text from the 22nd Amendment:
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

It specifically says "shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice". In the scenario I described Obama wouldn't be elected twice for prez. The same for the second sentence's "shall be elected to the office of the President" (in regards to having served as prez without being elected, which Obama hasn't done).

So at least how I read it, I can see the Dims' pushing his highness into the WH again.
