Not to that degree. The source of your seeds?
Get some verified Kentucky Wonder. High sprout rate and the output of the pole/vines is phenomenal (long growing, at least in Kentucky, NC, VA, and SC anyway).
fwiw. good luck.
Are they Walmart seeds?
I enjoy some of the gardening videos on YouTube, and I’ve noticed in the comments that many experienced gardeners are having problems with germination, and they mention beans in particular. As for getting the wrong seeds, I’ve had similar problems when ordering from seed vendors on Etsy. I think some of them are simply reselling cheap and outdated seeds they get from bulk seed dealers, many of them in China. You’ll notice that all those five-star ratings on Etsy are from folks who’re simply rating the speedy delivery of the seeds and not their germination rates and the resulting plants.
Bad seed. Get some fresh ones.
Sounds as if you suspect you got some high tech engineered seeds that are past their “sprout by” date?
I always use inoculant when I start beans. It’ll give you better germination and growth if the beans are halfway good.

As for things growing other than what the package says, straight out of the movie Secondhand Lions…everything came up as corn.
I grow Kentucky Wonders and they are going like a house on fire.
My yard long beans did not do so well this year, I might get a few to freeze for stir-fry. But the KW's are so prolific that I am looking up canned bean recipes
>> For one I had very little success growing beans of all things
I thought I was the only one!
Pole AND bush beans were affected. Low germination rate and the plants were not hardy, either.
Edamame and peppers in the adjacent rows did great.
I think the bush beans were Provider. I forget the variety of pole beans I planted.
Bad seed. I had issues with peas and lettuce this year and they were packed for 2024. Only Two pea plants came up out of 4 packages. Sowed several packages of leaf lettuce and hardly any came up. This was back in April/May. Conditions were perfect.
We had frost advisories right up to the end of May, so my garden didn’t go in until June 5.
Over two weeks later, I had nothing (never happened before). So I replanted.
Of all things, brussels sprouts are doing best. I only have about four bean plants now, which is highly unusual. They usually flourish in my garden.
Now I have cucumber plants popping up all over the place.
The problem is, this being northern Minnesota, it may be too late for everything.
This has been a really weird year.
I planted 18 Zuchinni seeds, all the same technique, 7 came up. I’ve never had that poor performance previously.
Is your seed company bragging about their new DEI successes on the seed label?
Ping your list?
What’s your growing zone? If you still have time, re-plant. I plant bean seeds a number of times through the season in my Zone 5 garden. This weekend I am pulling out some lettuce and broccoli plants that are totally past their prime and re-seeding with BEANS. :) I’ll re-plant LOTS of salad greens and broccoli again in the Fall.
My problem with beans is always, ALWAYS Chipmunks. Don’t overlook the fact that you’re probably losing some to those diggers, as well as Squirrels.
An old saying about direct seeding any crop:
“One for the blackbird,
One for the crow,
And that will leave
Just two to grow.”
Substitute ‘Chippies and Squirrels’ in that saying for my garden. ;)
