It drives at highway speeds, handles like a go-kart, transforms from drive to fly mode in three seconds, takes off vertically, and can fly for up to three hours on a hybrid powertrain. This remarkable road-going rotorcraft is now headed to the USA. Based in Melbourne, Australia – but clearly also with a presence in China – Pegasus is now moving its head office and production facilities to Las Vegas. The company says it's been working on its flying car design since 2009. Indeed, the project looks well advanced, and the company's naked early prototypes, first flown around 2016, have long since given way to the handsome, fully-enclosed Pegasus E, which made its debut in 2021.
Effectively, it's a small, single-seat helicopter with automatic quick-fold rotor blades, with a bare-bones open-wheel vehicle chassis grafted on, using carbon fiber rods. It's not precisely clear exactly where the electric part of the hybrid drive system comes in, but the combustion power appears to come from a lightweight, buzzy "Pegasus 800" two-stroke, making around 160 horsepower.
Before we get any further, you have to see this frankly insane "only in China" urban flight test footage, shot in what appears to be a deserted industrial estate.

I had a wall poster of one. It neon green and black. A girl I dated at the time wondered why I had it, since she thought my 71 Mustang Mach one was cooler, and had nice dark blue metallic and silver paint.
It did not handle like a go cart, and was a dog with its 351 2v windsor v8. But it was a sharp looking car. IL road salt devoured it.
Can’t wait to see the DMV license test for this one.
If there are only two in any country, guaranteed they’ll find a way to “meet.”

The number of LIABILITY lawsuits from accidents alone will be enough to prohibit anyone from even WANTING to own one. This is probably an invention by LAWYERS to help STEP UP business.
Sure, for rotorwing operation but the rotor doesn’t rotate during ground use.

The AI doing the film was having a hard time reconciling with the correct speed.
Picture criminals getting a hold of this thing. Instead of drive-bys, they’ll do fly-bys.

Seems kind of flimsy for that. And I would want fully certificated for that price.
So many things could go wrong, even if it’s used by police or taxi companies.
No - I’m talking about snagging them in the power lines that are ubiquitous everywhere. Low-level flight is impossible in any urban or suburban area. It’s bad enough for “real” pilots on approach — even with the orange balls on the power lines!
I didn’t ever have an unexpected encounters with P-lines but my friend in a Robinson R22 got all wrapped up with a cherry tree.
