Houthi Attacks Causing More Damage in the Red Sea, Merchant Traffic Through Suez Canal Down More than 50%
U.S. Naval Institute ^ | JUNE 20, 2024 | HEATHER MONGILIO

“And I would say that really, it’s the Houthis that have failed to deter the United States and the international community from continuing to operate in the Red Sea. You know, they’ve conducted over 190 attacks, the vast majority of which have been knocked down, thanks to U. S. and international efforts to help safeguard shipping and the lives of mariners through operations like Operation Prosperity Guardian,” Ryder said.

“The United States has continued to destroy Houthi offensive capabilities in Yemen, but the terror group continues to have sufficient means to threaten shipping. This offers insights regarding the size of the terror group’s arsenal and suggests that the Houthis continue to enjoy a supply of arms from its patron in Tehran,” Bowman said in the email. “An effort to destroy capabilities in Yemen that does not devote sufficient attention and resources to interdicting weapons shipments from Iran to Yemen is not unlike the homeowner cleaning up puddles but ignoring the hole in the roof.”

Playing defense against a bunch of sand savages from the 14th century. Trump would have taken them out.

Egypt, who is the principal victim of these attacks, needs to fix the problem, permanently...
They have the forces to do it...

They could be pur sang Germans and the right response would still be saturation air strikes. The Democrat response to Benghazi was clearly not an aberration.

The problem is that we have been effin around with land wars on the Eurasian Steppe for so long that we have forgotten that our national security is actually dependent upon our maritime power - the ability to use the seas for trade and prevent others from harming those interests.

Instead we are locked in a WWI artillery duel on the Ukrainian Steppe to defend a democracy abroad we don't even defend at home all to serve some globalists in Londanistan and Brussels and the like.

From Biden to Blinken to Austin to Milley and his successors we are run by geostrategic nitwits are grossly overextended where we don't need to be and are hollowed out where we should have been instead.

Block the Persian Gulf and see how the ragheads like it. Blow up an oil tanker or two maybe a terminal. Otherwise get walked on by sand dwellers in tents and enjoy it

Playing defense against a bunch of ...

Well that's their story anyway. It could be the Houthi are being deliberately tolerated to keep things stirred up.

Saudi Arabia tried to defeat the houthis in a multi year war. They sent multiple invasion forces into yemen that all ended in defeat. The Saudi’s wound up begging the houthis for a peace deal. The houthis are pretty tough, and the terrain in yemen is really rough. Not a good place to send american troops.

Obama and Biden prevented them from Using US weapons on them because they are Iran’s friends who are Obama’s ilk. John Kerry has a kid married into a high ranking Iranian Family.

Agree.

OTOH bombing them down to the bedrock would do the trick.
Wouldn't even have to go nuclear.

Good point. it does seem that Egypt could accumulate a group of countries interested in dealing with the problem.
