I'll probably regret this...

Posted on 06/15/2024 7:00:46 PM PDT by Jamestown1630

...but, heck, it's Saturday night.

Has anyone here been interested in Bigfoot/Sasquatch, or seen one, or know someone who claims to have seen one?

"But one theory is that they can secrete the odor in certain situations, and that’s why those who encounter them don’t always smell it."

I heard (on Coast to Coast AM) that bigfoots are inter-dimensional beings which is why we never find bodies and bones after they die.

The whole Bigfoot topic is so ridicules it's not even worth creating hot links.

Yes. Finding Ivory Billed Woodpeckers still alive would be tremendous. I hold out hope that pairs are out there somewhere in the depths of its native range.’

Did you see the video that came out ten years ago or so the purported to show one flying between two trees? It was that or a red-headed one. The difficulty was getting a good view of the patterning on the wings as that was about all that could be distinguished about it.

Long ago, a woodpecker with red feathers on its head flew right by me at Fort Stewart, Goergia. While Fort Stewart is located in the Ivory Bill’s native range—and would make a great sanctuary for them, I think—it was almost certainly a red-headed woodpecker. It seemed very large when it flew by. But I cannot say I noticed an ivory bill.

There is also a stretch of forest in Cuba where some subspecies of the Ivory Bill may live. Last I read, no living specimens were heard nor found. But hope springs eternal.

…But let’s say you or I found one or two Ivory Bills, no doubt about it, in the wild somewhere in the southern US. Would you tell anyone? Would it occur to you that maybe telling folks would draw unwanted attention to them and then they really risk becoming extinct? Or would you let them be in whatever hidden corner of their range they are in to live and expand their tiny population until they grew in numbers that could no longer be hidden? I’d be inclined to stay mum after taking a few photos to reassure myself of what I’d seen.

Someone did an interesting study using GIS to correlate sighting locations with environmental conditions.

Sightings/encounters seem mainly to be in areas with higher annual rainfall.

I saw the map they made, and in my state (MD) there have been only a few. Many more further south (especially Central Florida), and of course in Northern California and the Pacific NW.

I think I saw that film.

I’d probably leave them be; and if I suspected Bigfoot was in the woods near me, I’d keep that quiet, too.

I have never seen one, even though I spent lots of time in the NW rainforests. However, a young man who occasionally visited my shop there, was convinced he had heard one and later saw it. He was a choke reserved for a logging crew, A job the least experienced and most expendable kids get. They were working in Pacific County in the SW corner of Washington.Very steep country with ferns and salad so thick one often can’t see the ground one is walking on. Great place for something to hide. This was a small outfit and they would sometimes sleep in their trucks at night to avoid the long trip to the site and back. The kid was a long way from being a rocket scientist, which was probably why was the choker-setter. He said that one night they heard something screaming and breaking large branches moving along a ridge a few hundred yards away from their trucks. That went on for a short while, stopped for a bit and then started in a different place. During lunch break the next day, he. Worked his way toward the place he thought the sounds were coming from. He said he heard something take off away from him. Something big and dark that he couldn’t keep up with. He was convinced it was bigfoot. Maybe it was or one of the older guys were just messing with him. Though, in retrospect, it may have been Michelle.

I am what you call a Bigfoot agnostic. I do collect stories from people who claim to have sighted them. I have visited the Bigfoot museum in Cherry Log Georgia. Spent a morning listening to strange sounds in the Georgia woods. Daughter worked with a Bigfoot hunter in Washington state who had a collection of plaster footprints

In 1992 I saw Bigfoot in St. Louis during broad daylight on sidewalk by a hill, but I was running work errands and figured I would see it on the way back. It’s was gone by then. I guess they drove it someplace else. I was disappointed as how often does one get to see the 1st big name monster truck?

They appear to have very interesting feet...Professor Meldrum has done a lot of work on that.

There’s a book called Extinction by Douglas Preston (fiction) that may interest you.

It’s probably closer to a Jurassic Park mystery than Bigfoot, and you can always listen to books.

I don’t know what to think. Logically a hunter or logger or a trailcam should stumble upon some direct evidence. I do know that a respected schoolteacher who lived in a known sighting area claims she saw an 8 ft tall creature with reddish hair and red eyes run across the road in front of her car. Said to tell noone

There are many recorded sightings; but I wonder how many people have seen things and told nobody.

As a Christian I often ponder the spiritual side of sightings. It seems that many prechristian native peoples have many legends and myths involving large bipedal creatures
