I don't remember when I got old, it just happened. One day I turned around and discovered I was an old man. Thinking back on it I think it was after my wife died. When Sheila died it took all the wind out of my sails. I'm now adrift, without rudder, without anchor and without a North Star. The bilge water is creeping up and threatening to put the fires out for good.
If you've ever experienced being dead in the water in the middle of an ocean, that's how I'm feeling right now. It's a surreal feeling.
'O God, thy sea is so great and my boat is so small.'
That reminds me. When I was in that last nursing home one of the nurses said that she likes all of her men close shaven and asked if she could shave me. what else could I say but yes. After she shaved me she said oh you look 10 years younger.
Then a few days later Chris came in and gave me a haircut. and the nurses said you look 10 years younger. so just like that I lost 20 years in a span of a few days.
And it just so happens that a few days ago one of my caregivers trimmed my beard and said I look younger. and tomorrow my new girlfriend is coming in to give me a haircut.
Will let you know later if I’m really as young as I feel.
No I’m ok. I didn’t mean to make this thread sound so bad. I actually meant it to be humorous. Failed that. Thank you very much and God bless you.
You probably have considered this reality:
The replies to you have created a great potential book on the FR past and your life to date with a lot of Freepers.
Besides the electronic version, some talented person can create a book using our replies on paper to make a book.
Then, you would have the electronic versions and a paper version.
Yes I know. I’ve got a giant hole in my heart that can never be filled. I love her so and always will.
George Burns smoke cigars and drank every day of his life. Is the doctors told him he’d better stop or would kill him. Sure enough he died about 100 years old But he had outlived all of his doctors.
My grandmother never smoked, though she liked a good belt of Scotch in the evening. Still living alone and licensed to drive at almost 100, but she had a heart attack while shoveling snow about 6 weeks before her birthday. I’ve always figured that if you get past 80 or so, it’s time to ignore the doctors because whatever you’re doing is working.
Anyway, please don’t give up on yourself.
Now that’s funny. I came out of my coma to a full beard, no one shaved me so as far as I know they laughed at me when they sponge bathed me... HAHAHAHA!
You’re a lucky guy getting younger now. What’s your secret? Being handsome? : )
It certainly sounds as if you are on to something there, FRiend ;);)
there is little to say that has not been said, and so very well, but,
Please, keep us in your loop good sir,
knowing, that not only do we understand, that we care deeply,
and with immeasurable gratitude,
Tatt
I am definitely old. I can hardly believe how I was once able to multitask. No longer. When I look in the mirror, I no longer see my mother, but I see my grandmother.
I consider myself to be in the gratitude phase of life. One of the things that I am most grateful for is FreeRepublic. I started lurking in the 1990s during the outrages of the Clinton administration. I was so happy to find a community of similar thinking American patriots. I had no idea how completely crazy and evil the left would become in this country, making FreeRepublic more important to me than ever.
I am extremely grateful for the forum and for the happy memories of the DC chapter activities, especially both of the FreeRepublic inaugural balls.
Thank you, Jim Robinson, for making all of this possible. You have been, and continue to be, a life changer. I’m very sorry for the loss of your wife. You always miss her.
Ya think, Jim? Love you, Bro’! Bob
Not going anywhere - not quitting and just wondering about how fast life moves along... That works for me. So thankful I read you wrong. So happy for the correction. :)
I will carry that kiss in my heart for-ever. :)
I understand the feeling. When Charlotte passed away, I stopped living. How I wished that I had Prayed, begged, pleaded, dis what ever I had to do to get the Good Lord to have taken me at the same time He took her.
Hugs, Love, and Prayers my dearJR 🤗💖🙏
My prayers are with you , Jim. Sending gentle hugs ,too.
Yes it does. Our life in this Earth is brief, like that lily in the field, gone in a breath. That fact becomes more apparent as we can now see the finish line coming into view. Thankfully we can trust in our God throughout and into the afterlife, for He will never leave us or forsake us. God bless you richly today, Jim Robinson!!
Prayer For Peace Into Old Age
Father, You are great and mighty and worthy to be praised, for You have promised to carry me, to sustain me and to hold me steady even into my old age. Thank You that in You there is nothing in life for about which I need be concerned, for I am safe in Your hands, knowing that You will uphold me with Your righteous right hand.
Speak Your perfect peace into my heart I pray, in the midst of the troublesome circumstances in which I find myself, and keep me resting in Your love and abiding in Your precious peace, in the strong assurance that You are mighty to save in every season of life.
Thank You for the thrill of childhood, the experience of youth and the lessons of adulthood. And now, as I face the twilight years of my life, I thank You Father, for Your never failing promises and Your ever present sustaining power.
Flood my mind with Your peace I pray, and enable me to sleep at night in tranquillity of heart, knowing that the angel of Your presence is with me throughout the hours of darkness. Praise the Lord O my soul, and all that is within me bless His holy name. In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.

If misery loves company, then rest assured that you’re in a LOT of company!
Because you just don’t know. While alive, live

Or put another way, you know without a doubt, you just don’t know when. Could be before you hit the “Post” button! Or after you go to sleep tonight!
