Someone needs to open up a can of whoop @@@.
People should legally be allowed to shoot home invaders.
It had already occurred to me that this could happen when you rent your house out through AirBnB.
airbnb ran the other way when their tenants wouldn’t move out?
Sue them all.
I always thought the Airbnb business model was very risky. I did my homework on a renter. Seemed okay. Had to do an air-conditioning service there this week. There were about 20 bags of rotting garbage in the Livingroom. No surface in the kitchen was clear of dirty dishware and rotting garbage. They’ve gotten two small dogs who have peed all over the house, probably because they aren’t being walked. And that was with some research into who I was renting to. But to take not one, but dozens of strangers on short term and leave the place furnished? Absolute craziness. It’s like playing Russian Roulette with your property.
Is this sort of thing possible in Mexico? Asking for a friend.
Such squatters should be moved into a free prison cell.
So funny really. AirBnB should be solely responsible for getting them out, liable for all damages and costs. Does a long-term rental invoke different laws than overnight or a few days or weeks?
This happened to a friend of mine who used Airbnb to rent out a spare room in his own house. Get that? In his own house. The agreement was for one week. But then the renters wouldn’t leave and wouldn’t pay to stay on. The police said it was a civil matter. You’ve got to get an eviction order. Blah, blah, blah.
The squatters finally left after about three months. I suspect my friend paid them to leave. I didn’t ask, as I didn’t want to embarrass him.
Moral of the story: The next time my friend needs some extra cash, better to get a part-time job at Walmart.
Set up an extremely loud sound system in the front of the property and play as loud as possible heavy metal and rap music from 11 PM until 6 AM every night until they are gone or run out by the neighborhood....
It was just a matter of time before this happened.
That is why using airbnb is not a good idea, I know the guy across the street from us he uses that to rent out his guest house, every few months there is someone new over there..not sure if he gets payment in advance but thats what he does
In this day and age, it isn’t recommended to allow anyone access to your home when you’re not there. AirBnB or not, eventually you’re gonna end up with scammers like this in there. The money just isn’t worth it.
The easy fix is to put a minimum credit rating at 750 to rent it. That will solve most of the issues without anyone screaming discrimination.

“Rahman contacted Airbnb for help as she already had another long-term renter booked through Airbnb ready to move in. She said Airbnb has not been helpful. “
That renter has legal rights to the BNB and the squatters should be moved out by the police.
Just as a semi-related sidenote, I don’t use Airbnb since they ticked me off a few years ago. However, I’ve had good luck with VRBO... which is similar.
These types of organization are always requesting that the renters submit a review right away after the trip is over. At the same time, the property manager also does a review on the renters. However, while the property owners get to see what the renters say about them and their properties, the renters don’t get to see what the property owners are saying about them.
A few friends in the middle of the night, with appropriate gear, could solve this problem. The owner might have to supply the alcohol for the cooler but other than that those friends might do it for no charge.
