Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Moscow should amend its adoption agreements with countries which have legalised gay marriage. Asked about the legalisation of same-sex marriage and adoption in France, he said other countries should respect Russia's "moral standards".
French President Francois Hollande is expected to sign the bill into law after it was passed by parliament.
It has emerged that Russia warned the Irish Republic last month that it could stop the adoption of Russian children by Irish parents if the parliament in Dublin endorsed the Magnitsky Act.
The act places sanctions on 18 Russians allegedly involved in the death of anti-corruption whistleblower Sergei Magnitsky in a Russian prison in 2009. Russia banned Americans from adopting Russian children soon after the US Congress passed the legislation in December.
MPs in several EU countries, including the Irish Republic, are considering following the American example.
At a meeting between lawmakers and Mr Putin in Moscow, Marina Orgeyeva, speaker of the regional assembly in Kaliningrad, suggested making changes to adoption agreements with France to ensure that Russian children were not adopted by same-sex parents.
"I consider it quite correct to make changes to the appropriate documents," Mr Putin replied.
"It is a current issue and we need to think about it. We respect our partners but ask them to respect Russia's cultural traditions and ethical, legal and moral standards."
Russia decriminalised homosexuality in 1993 and officially removed it from a list of psychiatric disorders in 1999.
However, demonstrations by gay rights activists have been banned and a bill outlawing "homosexual propaganda" is currently before parliament in Moscow.
In France itself, the same-sex bill has divided society. Opponents have held several mass demonstrations in Paris, some of which have seen protesters clashing with police…

Not alone, but it is a major factor. The ‘problem’ they have with Putin on this is that he protects Russian kids from becoming play-things for gays, and thus shows that there are options other than allowing crap like Drag Queen Story Time and Pride Marches.
I still think that Climate Change is the BIGGEST FACTOR, since Russia has virtually unlimited hydrocarbons and so can continue to use them, and supply them to their friends...while at the same time, we’re freezing our butts off in our EVs waiting to find an open charging station.

Let's first point out the sexual mores of recent US Presidents. FDR and Clinton had lesbian wives. Clinton and JFK literally would sleep with any young woman who crossed their paths. Even Ike had a long-running affair with his attractive female driver. Do we want to discuss the sexual preferences of Obama and Biden?
Putin professes to be a Christian. He engages in Christian rituals, even some extreme ones like ice-bathing for Orthodox Ephiphany. He speaks on Christianity's role in Russian society regularly. He, and most Russian elites, promote Orthodox Christianity and Christian Morals as a path towards national unity and stability after the horrors of the Soviet years.
Even if done completely for cynical reasons - it IS nonetheless done. Which then begs the question - what religion and public morals do OUR politicians in Washington DC promote? Is that for the good of the country?

These social issues, as dealt with by Putin, are a reason why I am not a kneejerk Russia hater.
The whole concept that anyone is permitting homo adoptions is mind blowing. But it doesn't change a fact that both russia and China are dictatorships with the scale of pathology unseen anywhere in the west. They claim “moral superiority” just like Stalin, Hitler, Mao or Taliban did.

Nobody is perfect. Heck, Trump is on marriage #3 while Obama and Clinton remain with #1. We have perfection in Heaven.

There was a great story about Trump receiving a blessing from Fr George Rutler in NYC before the 2016 election. I met Fr Rutler-he’s the real deal in terms of being a man of God and not falling for modernist claptrap. If he blessed Trump, there was some repentance happening.

Now, it so happens that Trump is waaaay better than the other singers in terms of life, liberty, and property. He also comes with trwinwreck-like baggage. Such is life, and it looks like voters can live with it.
