In the past couple of years I have noticed there is a complete lake of regard for other posters on this site. Not only that but swearing seems to be tolerated. In the past day I have been called gay, a lair, that I am talking out of my *** and I am full of ****. Do we even have to go into the fighting on any thread about Ukraine or Russia. Even hard facts from multiple sources no longer seem to matter. Instead it is whoever can come up with the snarkiest reply.
"Which means you know absolutely nothing in regard to its truthfulness or not at this point right now. IOW you are talking out of your ass. - Az Joe"
Thank you so much. I have learned that Jesus and family along with a select few friends are all you can rely on in this world.
That and his general tone throughout the thread. Much like the former H Gunner, some just get to talk like a late night talk show host who thinks he is deep and insightful but is just throwing out insults.
The Romney Purge
Anyone...? Anyone...? Bueller...? Ferris...?
We have had acrimony in SPADES, before; and the ZOTs were thinker ‘n’ love bugs on a Florida bumper in September. LOTS of former stalwarts vaporized over their adherence to RINO Romney, a.k.a. Obama Lite.
But your broader point is well-taken.
I’ve observed the average post has become less thoughtful, less anchored to cites, shorter, less tactful, sometimes even less germane. FR used to be pretty reliably researched; we dug up the details and linked them, which was a vital element of this site.
Now... not so much.
Now it’s all Biden crapped his pants at Normandy (didn’t happen)
Tell me, did a guy dressed as a bunny at a Whitehouse Easter event NOT run up and redirect Creepy Joe when he wandered off?
This froup is full of shibboleths.
My Hovercraft is full of Eels.
[Orthogonal to it - pretty similar to Reagan supporting those willing to stand against the Soviet Union.
Better example would be Reagan’s efforts to cut domestic handouts, while the other guy blasted Senate Republicans for refusing to support his December 2020 push for another round of $2000 check handouts.
Populists love to buy votes.]
I agree with you about NO American troops in a war with Russia over Ukraine
What do you mean by "classic Slavic war"?
Just that Eastern Europe has always been in a state of war or flux.
Actually eastern Europe hasn’t been in more of a state of flux than western or central or southern Europe
I met Barbara Olson at a party in Houston years ago. There were three Barbaras there meeting her at the same time. It was so amusing. She was very warm and friendly. Such a beautiful nice lady. She died on 9 11. I lost a friend in the WTC collapse, too.
If you got called all of those things then you very likely said some things that made you deserve it. That’s the way online forums work and FR’s no exception. If you can’t take the rough and tumble world of online political discussions then maybe it’s just not for you. It’s a world where people agree and disagree, it will always be that way and you can’t change it. Posters are very passionate about the things they believe in, so they don’t always use tact when disagreements arise. Learn to roll with the tide or park your rowboat on the shore. You’re choice. I’m not saying you have to agree or disagree with anyone or anything, that’s your choice. Just learn to express yourself and your views without coming off like a turd.
I am one of those who enjoy the rough and tumble—but in the past year or so I am noticing something a little different.
The attacks—indeed the hate—on some topics is so bad that I need to pull my punches and hold back on presenting legitimate and serious data and/or arguments.
That is because I am concerned for the mental stability of some folks.
There are a few around here act like they are on the verge of mental collapse if their worldview is challenged—and I do not want to be responsible for that.
Even though this is over one year old, if I remember correctly it had to do with Russia and any disagreement or criticism of Ukraine would result in being called a Putin Puffer. It is not about being tough, but about being mature enough to form an intelligent response, especially when the average age around here seems to be 60+
