The write up does not say it, but this should probably be considered an association, rather than proof.
My memory has gotten significantly worse over the last year. I can attribute some of that to stress, but my mother died of Alzheimer’s, so I’ve started taking several supplements that are supposed to help protect from it. I think I’ll start consuming some olive oil each day.
Did it—or did the correlation come from another associations, such as those who care more about their health or those with higher incomes?
My ex mother-in-law has dementia right now. it’s a hard thing to watch.
Was there not another study last week on FR that showed the same results, or was it one in the same? Seems the study posted last week showed olive oil helped women and less so men in reducing dementia.
Having said that, I found some taste test results for various olive oils and Aldi’s house brand “Specialy Selected” Sicilian EVO olive oil is highly rated for both cooking and dipping/salad dressings and affordable ($8.99 for 16.9oz.) We are about to crack open a bottle.
So you’re saying I need to switch to EVOO on my toast for my morning breakfast sandwich, and eschew the grass fed cow butter?
In May, there were numerous stories about it - here's a headline from one:
SUSTAINABLE FUTURE ‘Liquid gold’: An olive oil shortage is fueling record prices and food insecurity fears
but this should probably be considered an association,

Polyphenol-Based Design of Functional Olive Leaf Infusions
"The beneficial properties of polyphenols are widely recognized, and polyphenol-rich olive oil, which is part of the typical Mediterranean diet, has been identified as having positive health effects. However, over the past decade, olive leaves have been discovered as an alternative polyphenol-rich source. This is particularly interesting in the context of the growing interest in functional foods, as well as in terms of the management of biological waste, including olive leaves that are left over from the production of olive oil. Previous studies on olive leaves confirmed that they have a high phenolic content, which explains their previously described strong antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiviral activity. Therefore, the major aim of our work is to comprehensively determine olive leaf phenolic content in cultivars Istarska bjelica, Leccino and Buža as a natural source of bioactive compounds suitable for daily consumption in the form of infusion."
Snip..."Data from a number of studies suggest that olive leaf extracts reduce the risk of cardio- vascular disease (CVD) due to their anti-atherosclerotic, hypotensive, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and hypocholesterolaemic effects (4). The phenolic compounds from leaves also possess antimicrobial (2) and neuroprotective activity (5). Nevertheless, limited data on the effects of olive leaf polyphenols in humans is available in the scientific literature. Still, some randomized clinical studies show that olive leaf polyphenols are favourable modulators of blood pressure, plasma lipid profiles (4) and insulin sensitivity in overweight people (6)."
