Apple is saying it “missed the mark” with a controversial ad for its new iPad Pro.
Apple’s vice president of marketing communications, Tor Myhren, said in a statement to AdAge, “Creativity is in our DNA at Apple, and it’s incredibly important to us to design products that empower creatives all over the world. Our goal is to always celebrate the myriad of ways users express themselves and bring their ideas to life through iPad.”
“We missed the mark with this video, and we’re sorry,” he added.
AdAge reported that Apple no longer plans to air the ad on TV.
On Tuesday, Apple CEO Tim Cook posted on X, “Meet the new iPad Pro: the thinnest product we’ve ever created, the most advanced display we’ve ever produced, with the incredible power of the M4 chip. Just imagine all the things it’ll be used to create.”
The controversial ad depicted a hydraulic press crushing several a pile of artistic items such as a piano, an ’80s-style arcade, a guitar, and paint cans that spatter paint all over.
As it lifts up, the new iPad Pro is left behind.
However, the ad was harshly criticized on X:

Ping!...................
Oh good grief... there was nothing wrong with it.
Too violent for soy people....................
What’s the controversy?
Why?! It’s a brilliant ad! Just because some butthurt anti-Apple writer blasted it in an article doesn’t mean they have to pull it.
Pantywaists all in a flutter over nothing - so easily are they offended, that they detest and destroy the creativity of others.
I still don’t understand what the “offense” was....if something that’s not offensive, offends people, we need this country to completely collapse for people to wake up.
Musical instrument destruction. I can see how that might upset people
Full disclosure, I despise Apple products and still couldn't think of something bad to say about their ad. But wait, I can now call them idiots for thinking something was wrong with it.
Used to be “creatives” used sculpting clay and armatures and kilns, or oil paint and canvases and easels. Look how far we’ve come as a “creative force” with all of the electronic garbage these hucksters are now selling us. We’re ALL artists now.
VERY cool ad!!!
I didn’t like it. The message is that some of the great inventions and achievements of human culture are outmoded.
Well l didn’t care for it but there was nothing that warranted an apology, that was ridiculous.
Imagine if these wimps had seen an old Who concert. They would have needed to be hospitalized for the vapors.
I think RFK, Jr wasn’ the only one with maggots munching on a brain
Oh, my wife and oldest son were also offended, please ship two more.
Think about it… Items that have been used for centuries in creative pursuits are being replaced by an iPad. Now you don’t have to learn how to paint with brushes, play guitar or piano, or an arcade game. Apple is “cancelling” all the good things that are traditional. Not surprising
An iPad will never bring the joy of making something with your own hands, so they have to crush “old school” into nothing.
Artists were triggered!
I can see many of the art-studio materials being less important since the rise of digital, but not the musical instruments. Come on!
OK, thanks!
