Apple Issues Apology for Controversial iPad Pro Ad — Pulls It From TV
Independent Journal Review ^ | May 10, 2024 | Bradley Cortright

Apple is saying it “missed the mark” with a controversial ad for its new iPad Pro.

Apple’s vice president of marketing communications, Tor Myhren, said in a statement to AdAge, “Creativity is in our DNA at Apple, and it’s incredibly important to us to design products that empower creatives all over the world. Our goal is to always celebrate the myriad of ways users express themselves and bring their ideas to life through iPad.”

“We missed the mark with this video, and we’re sorry,” he added.

AdAge reported that Apple no longer plans to air the ad on TV.

On Tuesday, Apple CEO Tim Cook posted on X, “Meet the new iPad Pro: the thinnest product we’ve ever created, the most advanced display we’ve ever produced, with the incredible power of the M4 chip. Just imagine all the things it’ll be used to create.”

The controversial ad depicted a hydraulic press crushing several a pile of artistic items such as a piano, an ’80s-style arcade, a guitar, and paint cans that spatter paint all over.

As it lifts up, the new iPad Pro is left behind.

However, the ad was harshly criticized on X:

Plus, I’m not offended by the ad at all. I actually think it’s kind of clever.

The ad was grotesque. Bannon played it on his show this morning.

I don’t think you can cram real music from real instruments into a cell phone. It takes the ‘human computer’ to convey the beauty of actual instruments played by human hands.

I feel bad for a lot of young people today, because there is so much of which they only have ‘simulations’ now.

I’m surprised that the BoomerCons and NormieCons can’t see what is wrong with this ad. (actually no I am not).

We have the symbolism of giant technological corporate globalism crushing all the modes of creation and display of arts, entertainment, communication culture in the real world, flattening them, destroying them, and leaving a corporate product at the end, which has to be constantly subscribed to, and where anything in the real world has ended, and it is all virtual.

From the beginning, the Left has wanted to destroy, deconstruct, and annihilate Western civilization, Western culture, Western achievements, and ultimately the ethnic groups that built Western Civilization.

This ad celebrates that, and also shows how they intend to do it.

Also, the Left has always wanted to destroy and eliminate the constraints of the real, and push everything into fantasy worlds and virtual worlds where the the actual constraints of reality don’t matter.

This ad shows the way for that as well.

Bannon can see it.

The dissident Right on Twitter saw it immediately.

What I’m saying is it doesn’t matter to Apple how good or bad any creative tools have been over the centuries… The iPad Trump’s them all apparently.

I don't think this is the message of the commercial and I don't think this is what Tim Cook believes. He is selling his product and thru the commercial is trying to convey all of the creativity that it potentially contains.

PS, I hate Apple and do not, nor will not buy any of their products for myself.

Digital media is incapable of replacing the tactile aspect of working with real media.

Agree when it comes to serious art; same with music.

But the huge amounts of commercial images surrounding us daily that were formerly produced with "fine art" materials are much more easily and cheaply done with digital -- TV ads, catalogs, book and magazine illustrations, animations, movie and stage backdrops and props, posters—all kinds of print and online imagery. Graphics people used to call it "wastebasket art."

It's just amazing to me that the Normie Right can't see the similarity.

I hate Apple too and Tim Cook in particular. That said, these “progressives” have zero use for tried and true anything. While I appreciate the tech, I abhor the mindset of tossing aside things that work. The visual from this ad came across to me as crushing tradition in favor of electronics. You know, like a “revolution” or something 😜

Proving again that the deep state, noodle-arm minions wouldn’t last 10 seconds in an argument, let alone a fistfight.

Don’t understand why it is controversal.

Upset that things were destroyed?

I would be sad that a rare whatever was intentionally destroyed. I seriously doubt that Apple would destroy one of a kind items.

Quite frankly it should not matter because they can do whatever they want with their property as long as it is legal.

The ad tells me the IPad can do all the things those destroyed items can do. It is just a different medium.
