Fulton County judge says Fani Willis disqualification ruling 'should be out tomorrow' (Friday)

Judge Scott McAfee said his long-awaited ruling on the effort to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis "should" come out Friday.

“I made a promise to everybody. These kind of orders take time to write. I need to make sure I say exactly what I want to, and I plan to stick to the timeline I gave everyone,” McAfee said, according to ABC affiliate WSB who spoke to him Thursday evening.

“Should be out tomorrow,” he continued.

Attorneys for several defendants have been pushing for the disqualification of Willis from the Georgia election interference case against former President Donald Trump and 18 others. McAfee has been weighing motions to disqualify Willis, primarily over accusations from Ashley Merchant's client, Trump co-defendant Michael Roman, that Willis benefited financially from a "personal, romantic relationship" with Nathan Wade, who she hired for the case, through Wade's "paying for vacations across the world with money he is being paid by the Fulton County taxpayers and authorized solely by Willis."

Friday's ruling comes as McAfee is in the midst of an election for a full four-year term on the bench. He has denied that politics would play a part in his ruling.

"The message I want to convey is no ruling of mine is ever going to be based on politics," McAfee said. "I’m going to be following the law as best I understand it."

Willis has pushed back on any allegations of misconduct. In a filing this week, she urged the judge to reject the motion to disqualify her, saying that in order to disqualify an elected district attorney, "an actual conflict of interest must be proven" -- which she says the defendants have not done.

If he does disqualify her, that could be the end of the case maybe. Does any other prosecutor want to try his hand on what is an obvious false case?

If he does not disqualify her because he’s afraid for his family, then he should not be a judge. There are other organizations that are already after her. Hopefully they will not be afraid of Dirty Fani. She belongs in prison.

Hmm. I think he will do the following, in hopes of getting re elected, and he won’t be re elected.

1. He will disqualify Wade
2. Will not disqualify Fani
3. Will not throw out the case

The man is up for election. Let’s be real here.

OTOH, he should do the following which will oddly enough get him reelected.

1. Disqualify Fani and Wade from case
2. refer them for ethics violations
3. Refer the case for review by the AG

The judgement will be that she is guilty of everything but she didn’t mean it so it’s okay and she won’t be disqualified

The whole country knows what needs to be done here.

He will not take her off the case or reprimand her.

He’s already said the text testimony is questionable.

There is no smoking gun regarding the cash payment. It looks bad, but no proof that she gained anything out of this other than a few trips.

Ethics violations? For sure, and he will refer these to the ethics board.

Case against Trump, will continue on.

She’s Black. So is Wade. If they were White and pulled this kind of stunt, there would be a Black judge disbarring them and jailing them in ten nanoseconds. But they’re not. And he isn’t. So he wouldn’t dare. Just keep moving along folks, nothing to see here.

Seems to me that is always the case now with court cases and media non-investigations. If the suspect has a "Perry Mason" moment and jumps up in the court room and shouts at the judge, "Yes! I did it! I'm glad I did it! And I'd do it again!!" At that point, a guilty verdict might be possible. But barring such an open court confession, it will always be a situation of "no proof" so no reason to probe into things too much.

It's different with Trump -- he gets accused of stuff and WHAM! he has to pay somebody $100M because he's guilty of whatever it is they said he did.

Friday night is when Democrats do something that will get them minimum air time in the press. It’ll make the Sunday talk shows. I’m expecting Fani to walk.

Don’t tell me: she had no intent so no DQ.

I hope this ruling is appealable.

“If he does not disqualify her because he’s afraid for his family, then he should not be a judge. “

I agree 100%.

My grandfather was a judge for 37 years in a small Montana town.

There was a blackman on trial for murder and he requested a bench trial - no jury.

Both sides rested on a Friday afternoon with my GF stating that he would issue a verdict on Monday morning.

Sunday night the KKK burned a cross on the lawn and told him in no uncertain terms: “If the Ni###r isn’t found guilty we’ll be back for you tomorrow night and you will be swinging from that tree right there (gesturing).”

My GF did the right thing and the framed man was returned to freedom.

About six months later one of those punks in the white robes that were harassing my GF was arrested for the murder.

He was tried, found guilty and my GF sentenced him to death by hanging.

I hope something equally justifying will happen to Fanni W.

If they vote him out of office for doing his job correctly then the citizens don’t deserve him. Instead he should pick up and move to another far less corrupted county and run for Judge there. He’ll most likely win.

But thats using taxpayers money to fund personal business. Im sure Ive seen folks punished worse for far less. Dont always need a smoking gun. With that being said its tough for Trump to get a fair shake here.

It’s Fulton County after all.

Pre-MAGA, you could survive as a conservative judge, no one paid attention to those races.

Those days are gone and the legal edifice better wake up.
