I Thought This Was America?!: GCU’s Tyler Wilson Ridiculously Ejected For Bat Flip After Hitting Game-Tying Grand Slam

Umpires are getting softer and softer.

College baseball is gloriously back, but we’re not getting off to the best start because of these disappointing umpires. Just check out what happened this weekend in the last of a four-game series between Grand Canyon and Nebraska.

In the fifth inning of the game, GCU slugger Tyler Wilson popped out a gargantuan grand slam to tie the game, and though that sounds like something magical (and it was), it was completely ruined after the umps decided to eject him for flipping his bat in celebration.

Going into the bottom of the inning, the Cornhuskers were holding on to a nice 8-3 advantage but, putting their first four batters on the base, Grand Canyon managed to cut Nebraska’s lead down to 8-4. And then … Wilson. With no outs and the bases loaded, he launched a grand slam to tie the game, 8-8.

After knocking the ball out of the park, Wilson held his bat while he jogged to first base, flipping it when he got to the halfway mark and then proceeded to run around the diamond.

Following a jog around the bases, Wilson went to celebrate with his teammates before heading to the dugout to celebrate even more but, while that was going on, the umps had different ideas.

Just watch this video and pay attention to the home plate umpire, signaling an ejection while Wilson was swimming in glory.

What a sham. I’ll let Stan’s dad take it from here.

VIDEOS AT LINK..................

Let’s do better, umpires.

Whatever the rules, enforce them consistently.

Bat flipping is bad sportsmanship. This was never a thing until the self-esteem movement began playing.

We cannot have microaggression. If even one person feels like theyre worth less because of the aggressive actions or words of a another person - that person must be removed.

He didn’t get ejected for flipping his bat. He got ejected for carry the bat all the way to first base,(that’s a no-no) before flipping his bat. Didn’t see the game, but what I’ve read, that team(Grand Canyon) were being assholes the whole series. I guess that’s what happens when you lose 3 games in a 4 game series.

Bat flipping is bad sportsmanship. This was never a thing until the self-esteem movement began playing.

Sportsmanship is something one should be learning at the college level. The coach should take him aside either after the celebration or after the game, and dress him down for putting on a show after hitting the grand slam, ensuring he never does it again--and if he does, pull him out of the game himself. Umpires should be calling balls and strikes, outs and safes, not trying to teach gentlemanly skills.

Video of the flip. He was about 2/3rds of the way to first when he did it. Should have let the players resolve it themselves. My son was playing catcher when a player coming to home broke his hand. Took him to the hospital for treatment and we were told later that everytime the kid came up to bat, he got plnked.

In a “fair” inclusive diverse and equitable world all those home runs would have been equally distributed to the other team as well.

Think Hollywood. Think the NFL. Woke plots. Woke messages on the helmets. ‘’Look at what are they’re all getting away with. Will America give up football? Fat chance. Stop going to movies? If so they wouldn’t be making any.

National anthem before the start of games began during the depression. It was meant to take our minds off it. You’d think they’d learn by now. Instead we et military flyovers.

I learned in little league in three 70s you don’t bat flip.

“Sportsmanship is something one should be learning at the college level.”

Sportsmanship (and discipline) is something one should be learning in Little League and PE in grade school.

I got benched for the rest of the summer in Little League the summer after third grade.

I’d made it to third base after several fielding errors and decided to steal home even though the coach was telling me to stay put.

I was thrown out at home, got benched and was going to quit.

Parents ruled otherwise, you’re still going to go to practices and games even if you don’t get to play.

You’re on the team, you don’t get to quit even if there’s only 2 or 3 games left.

The umpire saved the batter from being plunked with a fastball in the head in the next at bat. Bat flipping is considered poor behavior in baseball.

When I coached baseball I always told my players to lay the bat down and run the bases hard. Act like you’ve done it before.
