Bat flipping is bad sportsmanship. This was never a thing until the self-esteem movement began playing.

Sportsmanship is something one should be learning at the college level. The coach should take him aside either after the celebration or after the game, and dress him down for putting on a show after hitting the grand slam, ensuring he never does it again--and if he does, pull him out of the game himself. Umpires should be calling balls and strikes, outs and safes, not trying to teach gentlemanly skills.

“Sportsmanship is something one should be learning at the college level.”

Sportsmanship (and discipline) is something one should be learning in Little League and PE in grade school.

I got benched for the rest of the summer in Little League the summer after third grade.

I’d made it to third base after several fielding errors and decided to steal home even though the coach was telling me to stay put.

I was thrown out at home, got benched and was going to quit.

Parents ruled otherwise, you’re still going to go to practices and games even if you don’t get to play.

You’re on the team, you don’t get to quit even if there’s only 2 or 3 games left.
