Crying Gen Zer struggles to find job with ‘stack’ of resumes as she wanders NYC: ‘Not what I expected’
New York Post ^ | Feb. 8, 2024 | Joshua Lynch

A 26-year-old New York woman vented her frustration on social media when her attempts to go door-to-door in the hopes of finding a job were not what she expected.

Lohanny Santos, from Brooklyn, showed tears rolling down her face on TikTok after she says her failed job hunt gave her “the most humbled” reality check she’s ever felt in her young life.

Holding a “stack” of resumes in her hand on the streets of New York City, Santos felt embarrassed to be rejected in person after asking countless potential employers “Are you guys hiring?” “It’s honestly a little bit embarrassing because I’m literally applying for, like, minimum-wage jobs,” she says. “And some of them are being like, ‘We’re not hiring’ and it’s like, ‘What?’ This is not what I expected.”

What a pathetic whiner.

Funny, our three kids have NEVER had any problem finding work. One started at the local lake at age 14 renting sailboats and running the snackbar. Others worked in restaurants, delivered pizzas, worked in various downtown shops, sold clothes at Nordstroms, taught horseback riding to kids, babysat, tutored math, learned photogrammetry and did mapping, and worked in civic planning before their “real” careers got launched. They never lacked for work.

She may not have voted.

On the other hand, if she's a Democrat, she's unusual for actually having the shw leather to go out and look for work;.

She’s obviously deficient in some clearly observable manner.

Biden’s BLS says we’re doing GREAT with new jobs....double/triple/quadruple expectations what I hear.

Here’s a clue, honey. Move out of Brooklyn.....hell, move out of NYC and get out into real America and stop voting for Democrats.

She should run for Congress. She’s as qualified as AOC.

One of my former students applied for a job with a computer gaming company. He had an interview and asked me if he should wear a suit. For this particular company I suggested he call HR and speak with the secretary and ask her (him?) what is appropriate dress for a job candidate. She told him the firm’s employees dressed in plaid and denim and he should dress the same. He did! He got the job!!

I always told my student if you are uncertain about what to wear call and find out.

“And she has weak college degrees (communication and acting).”

She might be putting those skills to good use on her tik-tok channel. Some of these “influencers” make good money on their numerous social media sites.

Going right to social media complaining and sounding illiterate didn’t help matters. She’s not OF material so that’s out. She needs to adopt a better and more realistic job search plan. She found out life is hard and college doesn’t guarantee a job.

A resume is evaluated by AI, based on the LEAST frequent, MOST significant terms (no “a”, “the”, “me” terms) in The JOB SPECIFICATION (”what’s that”?, in terms of education, training & experience), as they appear on the JOB ANNOUNCEMENT. If the “resume” fails to match a certain number of the hierarchical terms of the JOB ANNOUNCEMENT, it is automatically, unceremoniously filtered out & sent to THE CIRCULAR FILE.

Then the applicant reaches out to the actual people in the actual working shop, to LEARN MORE ABOUT THE JOB than the people conducting The INTERVIEW.

The applicant proves to the hiring interviewers how the applicant is the employee of their dreams, based upon THE REAL CONCERNS of the REAL PEOPLE IN THE SHOP.

The applicant proves to the hiring interviewers why they MUST HIRE This Applicant.

The applicant TAKES CHARGE OF THE INTERVIEW.

The applicant has studied the likely “trick questions” (many samples available online) which the interviewers will be certain to ask, practicing answering with realistic responses. The applicant acknowledges some past “learning situations”, with the answers of how they are now performing in actual work, based upon what they have learned.

Some kind of “what mistakes have you made, and what are you doing differently” questions have to be anticipated and practiced answering, otherwise the interviewers’ “phony meter” will go off.

I admire her and wish her well. I hope she gets a break. This is so different from the losers and lowlifes we hear about constantly.

The problem is that there are not as many jobs out there as people seem to think.

Employees are expensive. People are looking at ways to cut expenses.

Hiring someone with no experience at all is taking a major risk. And sadly she is going to be judged by the actions of her age mates. The people who throw a stinking fit over being asked to wear a uniform or come in a half hour before opening. It is not fair but life is not fair.

Hope she finds someone willing to take a chance.

It doesn’t take long to get a teaching certificate once one has a college degree. She could do that and maybe study Spanish at the same time since all the schools need bi-lingual teachers now.

Maybe it’s fake and she’s generating income via ad revenue clicks.
Maybe she’s making a bunch of money laughing at Boomers taking it seriously.

I feel bad for her. The experience I have had on places like Indeed tell me that what she is doing is a better way than trying to guess what some AI program wants the resume to say.

Democrats destroy everything, because their focus is revolution for the sake of revolution.

The trade deals supported by many on our side have a lot to do with why so many of her generation can't find work.
