NASA announces new 'super-Earth': Exoplanet orbits in 'habitable zone,' is only 137 light-years away
ABC News ^ | February 5, 2024 | Leah Sarnoff

Could a recently discovered "super-Earth" have the potential temperature and conditions to sustain life?

The new exoplanet is situated "fairly close to us" -- only 137 light-years away -- and orbits within a "habitable zone," according to NASA.

Astronomers say the planet, dubbed TOI-715 b, is about one and a half times the width of Earth and orbits a small, reddish star. The same system also might harbor a second, Earth-sized planet, which, if confirmed, "would become the smallest habitable-zone planet discovered by TESS [the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite] so far," NASA said in a Jan. 31 press release.

At the speed of voyager I (38210 mph) it would only take 2.5 million years to get there. The universe is a big place.

One light-year is about 6 trillion miles (9 trillion km). 6 with 12 zeros. 137x6 = 822 trillion miles. Only.

This topic came up before based on patriotandliberty blurb last summer. If you can’t access p, the highlights, 1) if you ramp up to close to speed of light assuming 25 g max, it would take a billion miles to speed up or slow down. 2) likewise if you had to turn, it would be some very shallow sweeping arc. 3) better be sure “nothing” is in your path between here and there.

Well, that is just next door for demonic extradimensional beings in flying saucers. It could be their base of operations between their home dimension and earth, and of course here they have Area 51 and also that big hollowed-out volcano down in Mexico that they fly into and outof at night.

But of course everybody knows that...

Yeah, but what if one had a teleporter? One could just teleport the entire aliencraft to a position in orbit around a destination planet and there they are. Just fly on in to the operational base with the cloaking beam turned on and there they are, sitting at the table next to you having tacos and cerveza and you don't even know it.

You might say "Those guys look kinda unusual" but that's all...

Good info. My first thought was that a small reddish planet seems ideal but that’s clearly not the case. I’ll have my travel agent cancel my booking ASAP...

I would ONLY take me about a thousand lifetimes to reach “super-Earth.” Then when I find out the planet is uninhabitable it would ONLY take me a thousand more lifetimes to return to earth.

You would be very unWOKE to even think “These guys kinda unusual”, and put into teleport jail if you actually said it.

It has been said that even one year in zero gravity results in significant bone loss and muscle deterioration.

Returning to earth gravity is an extraordinarily difficult and long duration, painful, rehabilitation.

In a time of space travel, people will necessarily adapt, sociologically and in many other ways to these effects.

Likely, space travel will become a lifelong endeavor/profession. Which might make compensation an intriguing prospect, as well.

Unless there is artificial gravity, it is doubtful space travelers would ever choose to re-enter a gravitational environment.
