The leader of a Baltimore nonprofit got an up-close and personal look at the destruction caused by the war in Gaza.
Sean Callahan, CEO of Catholic Relief Services, said the devastation and desperation there is clear.
“In the morning, afternoon and night, you have jets buzzing overhead. You hear bombing in the distance. You have drones and helicopters over you. You have these poor people that have moved around and it’s very difficult,” he said.
Callahan toured the area and visited the group’s office there to get a better idea of what assistance they need, as many civilians have been forced out of their homes by warfare.
“Our teams put some solar panels on the roof, had their computers there, lined up people and we were doing a distribution to make sure the right people were getting assistance,” he said.
Food, shelter and hygiene kits are the physical items Gazans need most. The 45 CRS employees are also working to lift spirits among residents. One employee’s 6-year-old son is struggling to grasp the situation.
“He turned to his dad and said, ‘Dad, we’re only children. Why are they trying to kill us?’ and it just broke your heart seeing this young kid trying to understand that. Then, I spent the evening with them and I was talking to him and his wife, and she was saying how her sister and all of her children were killed in one of the bombings,” Callahan said.
Despite the circumstances, Callahan said they are resilient, but eager for the conflict to end.
“I don’t know what the endgame is. I’m hoping the endgame comes pretty soon and it’s a stopping of violence and we can get back to assisting people and respecting the human dignity on all sides,” he said.
I'm not forgetting that it is Catholic Charities (among others) who are giving vital aid to the illegal criminal invaders coming into our country, giving them money, maps, phones, clothing, and transportation.
What on earth is wrong with these people?
How do you feel about October 7th there, Chief?
I’m sure Sean RomanCatholic Callahan had similar or worse heart felt “broken heart” reactions upon seeing the Oct 7 massacre with torture, burnings and beheadings right?
I must have missed that.
NGO’s, ESPECIALLY this one (spit) are actively engaged in child trafficking. The US FED GOV SCUM TRAITORS are paying them $270 a day, per unaccompanied minor (illegal alien invader) and have 150 camps in Texas, and another 100 outside of Texas. The current count is over 11,000 children in NGO custody.
The cartels are charging $10,000 a head for each human smuggled into our country from central and south America.
For other continents, the price soars to $20,000 a head.
The UN is behind the invasion of America. The wrong buildings on the planet were hit on 9-11.
Ho Xiden owns all of the misery and spilled blood that is coming to America.
They sure don’t like the “find out” phase, do they?
Shouldn’t start wars you can’t afford to lose.
“pope” frankie is a gay commie.
What happened on Oct 7 broke my heart.
If muslims don’t want pushback, they need to stop doing the things that cause people to push back.
Don’t start it if you can’t finish it, consequences and all.
Likely he was NEVER there then on that day and saw the horrific aftermath of what his wonderful little Gazans did. He gets no sympathy or support from me. He should just go home and shut up. Let the GAZA that KNEW what Hamas was up to and helped and supported them, tacitly kept quiet of reveled in its aftermath. They are ALl guilt, and this rubble is their reward.
And yet the Ukrainian conflict must be both down played and prolonged and intensified at all costs while the much smaller and far more localized Gaza conflict must be stopped at all costs
It seems some wars are more equal than others.
The catholic church is my enemy. I don’t know any other way of looking at all this. I’m not asking for advice, so don’t bother.
“the right “ people - i hope he means nonHamasniks. it doesn’t say where in Gaza he was and whether he is ministering to Catholics there. to be a Catholic in Gaza would already be an uphill battle. the Christian population there and in West Bank has diminished hugely due to hostile environment.
The number of Christians in Gaza has been reduced to just about 1,000, while the number of Muslims is reaching close to 2 million. Still, the remaining Christians stay resilient, though the tendency is for the young people to want to emigrate.
You assume they want it finished? These attacks are intentionally designed to provoke what they will inevitably call an “overreaction” so their propagandists can point and say “look how horrible those people are” and raise more money and more followers to the cause. It’s not supposed to finish until the “final solution”.
what the WAR has done to gaza? that’s the same way it looked before any war.
No didnt break my heart...
Oct 7 did though ...
and continues too...
Wheres your heart on that ???
If it makes you feel any better, Catholic Relief Services is not considered a religious organization under U.S. law. They have the same legal status as the United Way or Rotary International.
Wait until this guy’s son gets old enough to see thru his fathers lying bullshit…
“What on earth is wrong with these people?”
Just in it for the endless supply of money, especially recent illegals in this country. This is how busloads of the invaders disappear overnight, the arrangement is made ahead of time that’s why you never see them again after the drop-off, especially airports in the middle of the night or a pre-arranged bus stop.
