The Atlantic explains 'why Americans hate a good economy' as Biden's polling sours
Fox News ^ | 11/25/23 | Joseph A. Wulfsohn

The Atlantic went to bat for President Biden, publishing a piece Wednesday titled "Why Americans Hate a Good Economy" as his polling continues to show overwhelming disapproval.

The article began by citing a recent Financial Times poll showing the majority of voters saying they are financially worse under Biden "despite some objective positive measures" like 3.9% unemployment, an unchanged consumer price index and a drop in "wage inequality."

Staff writer Jerusalem Demsas attempted to explain what she viewed as the disconnect between Americans' perception of the economy versus the economy itself, highlighting "seven possible explanations."

The first is "People need a second to adjust," reflecting that the country is still bouncing back from the COVID pandemic followed by the spike in inflation.

"Although price jumps are leveling off, it’s important to appreciate that economic conditions changed really fast in both directions, and people may need time to register what’s going on," Demsas wrote. "Even if respondents think conditions are improving, they’re rating the Joe Biden Economy based on the past two years, not just last month, and their perceptions may be baked in."

The second reason, Demsas conceded, is that "inflation is just really that bad," writing "If someone has a good-paying job in an inflationary environment, they may tell a pollster that they’re doing well—but the economy is doing poorly."

The third explanation is that "expectations are high."

"During the pandemic, the federal government provided Americans unprecedented support. It stopped evictions; it dropped thousands of dollars into personal bank accounts; it paused student-loan repayments; it gave aid to unemployed workers; it provided tax breaks to parents of young children, and billions in aid to state and local governments. In doing so, the government may have raised expectations for what a ‘good economy’ is supposed to feel like," Demsas wrote.

It’s way past time to totally reform what now passes as ‘journalism’. They are currently nothing more than organs of propaganda for the delusional left. Just pathetic.

(That is an increase of over 70%.)

That’s about the average jump in food cost since The Disastrous Joe Biden Administration got rolling.

99 cent cans of Campbell’s Chunky soup are now $2.26 under Joe Biden.

Been 99 cents for YEARS.

I thought it was $2.24 but I just checked again 5 days ago.

That’s 128% increase right there. ($2.26)

Yep. Governments play all kinds of games with what counts as “unemployment”. They make it very easy to claim disability so they don’t have to count those people as being unemployed. If somebody is unemployed for a long time they claim the person “gave up” and therefore don’t count them as officially “unemployed”. Of course nobody ever bothers asking the unemployed person directly if they “gave up” or not....

The better measure is total employment rate. What percentage of the population between 18 and retirement age is engaged in paid work? Governments can’t play games with that measure. That percentage is far far lower than it used to be.

Those measurements mean NOTHING, as they can be easily manipulated. What cannot be manipulated are the grocery and utility bills people are actually paying.

As a matter of fairness, I will now let Joe Biden respond to my comments.

> A better question is why does Jerusalem think the economy is good? Because Democrats say so? Weak.

presumeably, because economists say so. however, economists need not be quoted as saying so, because everyone who matters already know this.

you, deplorable MAGA peon, are one of those who do not know, and therefore, do not matter.

My reduction in income under Biden is about 7000 dollars a year due to his inflation. Fortunately, I worked hard and saved and invested and have a good retirement income thus my life style has not changed, but the 7000 dollars really pisses me off. Others that did not do this but were comfortable have had their asses kicked economically.

Biden’s economy has pissed me off. Biden’s economy has hurt badly the retired middle class. It is odd when I go to the grocery store. The customers accept the new higher prices but with little displayed anger. When they get to the meat section they are angry, actually sullen. When they get to the day to day staples they are angry and not sullen. The other goods are peripheral to their shopping.

Those shoppers are Democrats and Republicans and Independents. The are pissed off with Biden.
