Alex Jones often says he was the last REAL president in the sense that they could (back then) actually run things, make decisions/appointments, decide policy etc.
Since that fateful day his thesis is that all the presidents have been puppets. Every one of them with the possible exception of Trump who they used impeachment (twice!) / conviction to keep in line.
Is there any truth to this do you think?
If you mean by elected by the citizenry and not installed by Deep State, Reagan and later DJT.
Deep State has since corrected the mistakes they made each time.
And to ensure it doesn’t happen again, Deep State has ended our republic.
I was an observer in Western State (Mental) Hospital in 1973
Formerly known as ‘Western Washington Hospital for the Insane’ and before that ‘the Insane Asylum of Washington Territory’, Frances Farmer had been a patient there.
I didn’t say JFK closed the state hospitals, I said he emptied them, which was the effect over time.
I think that we are both correct. It sounds like Kennedy allowed that mentally ill people had the option of being institutionalized and that Reagan reinforced their rights of self diagnosis (whether they need to be institutionalized or not).
And I thoroughly agree that this had made streets unsafe and that in the long run, it is no help to the mentally ill either.
Just as JFK unionized federal workers he also wanted to federalize mental health.
Excerpts
President John F. Kennedy signed legislation creating a federally funded Community Mental Health Centers (CMHC) program. The legislation and subsequent additions authorized the use of federal funds to construct and staff CMHCs to “provide comprehensive mental health services” to local communities. Kennedy had high hopes for the program, claiming that it would replace “the shabby treatment of the many millions of the mentally disabled in custodial institutions.”
The CMHC legislation was a major departure from existing federal and state responsibilities. For 150 years, the care of mentally ill persons had been vested in the states; a few states, such as Iowa and Wisconsin, passed the responsibility on to the counties.
In 1963, federal funds contributed approximately 2 percent of the costs of services for mentally ill persons; today federal funds contribute over 75 percent of those costs.
The saddest part of JFK’s legacy is that we now have much better treatment and rehabilitation programs than we had in 1963, but they are unused for the majority of the sickest individuals. Reversing JFK’s shift toward federalization and holding states accountable is, ironically, our best hope for fulfilling his original dream.
Yikes!
Trump tried but the Swamp was deeper than he thought.
I’m 82, have seen a lot of presidents. If your measurement is “getting it done” and personality is disregarded, Trump did more in 4 years than any president I’ve ever seen. Imagine being energy self-sufficient, closed borders ( the most closed ever ), etc. We had it made. Now we are experiencing the direct opposite. Amazing to see the best and the worst “together” in history. An easy comparison.
I don't know why he chose Barr. He's a Bush guy, and I thought it was a bad choice from the get-go. But Trump is no puppet of anyone.
“No, DJT was.”
You are CORRECT!
Before him Ronald Reagan, before him, George Washington.
America’s GREATEST/BEST presidents
1. George Washington. (unquestionable)
2. Donald J Trump. (unquestionable)
3. Ronald Reagan. (unquestionable)
Soon to be...
1. George Washington. (unquestionable)
2. Donald J Trump. (unquestionable)
3. Donald J Trump. (unquestionable)
4. Ronald Reagan. (unquestionable)
Look up Executive order 1100.
Nixon and Trump were both real.
Try not to be a dick.
Sort of. But most of the time, the nominee is either the vice president or the candidate who came closest the last time and lost out.
It does happen that the media (and possibly some powers behind them) sometimes annoint a candidate -- Carter, Clinton, Obama -- but people still vote for them.
Anyway, go back to the early history of the country. Madison was Jefferson's man. Monroe was Madison's. Van Buren was Jackson's. Selected presidents go back a long way.
we’ve been in sad shape for a long time. no wonder we haven’t won a war since WWII.
