I am type 2 diabetic, diagnosed in 2015 not obese and never have been except at birth at 10 pounds 10 ounces. I’m 78 years old and for all my life I’ve preferred unsweetened tea and coffee. Never a big on dessert person either and not a big carb eater either, I’m 6 feet tall and weigh 175 pounds.

I stopped drinking soda decades ago and don’t miss it a bit.
I am amazed by all the standard work or school lunches I have been served, with no alternative, that included a big-bread sandwich, bag of chips, soda and big brownie or cookie or whatever.
What a disaster of a diet.
How? Stop drinking soda

I drink a lot of water because I’m diabetic. But I also consume a particular soft drink for the bubbles and it helps clear my throat. And that’s diet seven up.
Besides having no calories, it contains nothing mentioned in any red flag said about soft drinks except it does have 2% of a daily allotment of sodium per can. And that’s all. It is a refreshing change from water, cool aid, unsweetened ice tea, (caffine), and unsweetened lemon aid. And because it has little taste I have mixed lemon aid with it for a change.
Think about it. Might be a good substitute for you.

I’m diabetic (still only oral meds after 23 years). I only drink caffeine-free Diet Pepsi, and limit my caffeine intake to two cups of coffee a day.

I get soft drinks very seldom. My main drink besides water is plain (unsweetened) tea. I never really craved candy or sugary pastries, etc. I’m older and have all my teeth. My dentist just did a thorough exam, including x-rays and said everything is fine. The only dental work I have had as an adult are cleanings (not even fillings).
I have relatives half my age who drink “diet” soft drinks all the time and for years have been “trying to” cut down on sweets. Their teeth are falling apart. And some of them also have diabetes. Any younger people reading this, think about how you want your health (including your teeth) to be like when you are 50 or 60. If you are just moderately good (nothing extreme and I have been far from perfect) in your choices and in how you take care of yourself, you might find that when you are older you have fewer problems than other people your age or even people you know who are younger than you.
No doubt, but OTOH, I have a mouth full of ( permanent ) hardware ... ( i.e. no dentures ) which have endured for some decades, now.
That includes bridges and implants.
I gotta figure that's gonna be it.
That's contingent upon my "mouthguard" ( whatever it's called ) ... i.e. mouthpiece ( like an athletic mouthpiece, except custom molded and rigid ) which I wear at night.
As you might guess, I've got one hell of a bite!

Bought low sodium V8 this week...and V8 Black Cherry...cuz I don't drink our crappy water.
Weigh 118 5'3" BP 120/65 and 80 years old. No meds....very lucky....good genes.
Bullpucky. Start your day with a jigger of navy rum in your coffee and you’ll ndver forget it. After 3:00 PM switch to whisky. Irish, Scotch if you must, or Bourbon (only top drawer though). Leave the Gin, Vodka, and wine for the ladies. You might think that I’m fond of me drams. Well it’s true McGee, very true. But never ever drink n’ drive. That’s a fools game. I may walk sigogglin but I never drink n’ drive.
I drink maybe 4 or 5 sodas a year max... I make up for it in beer though 🤣🤣🤣
My wife and I have noticed that as we get older and our metabolism slows, we need less food.
We have a radical diet plan resulting: if you’re not hungry, don’t eat just because it’s mealtime.
