Thank you Judy!
Publius, please forgive me..
I was so busy posting pictures on Veterans day that I
couldn’t do anything right off to stop and listen!
Then, when I tried to find it, I couldn’t as it got
buried among all those posts on Veterans Day!

Could I please ask you for a redirect?
Thank you!

Great ideas Dolly. I don’t the number of the staff, at least 10. I like the gourmet dinner idea for the vet, something special for her and her family to enjoy together

what have made today?

I made a pasticcio, like lasagna but no cheese, just meat and béchamel. The crazy thing is my aunt in Italy made one at least 40 years ago. But I still remember it and I’ve been trying to figure out how to emulate it. All the pasticcio recipes I see are more Southern italian/greek. (if the name is pasticchio, it’s not italian. There’s no h in the Italian alphabet.) So I just modified one according to what I remembered. I can’t believe it took me so long!

I got a license when I was 16, but for many years after that I refused to renew or get one when I moved. I believed it was unconstitutional. Yes, I got caught and paid fines a few times. It was probably 18 years and I had moved into a house and I had to get one to have the water turned on, of all things! That was unconstitutional too as far as I was concerned! I used my friend’s ID to get into bars.

Always a rebel!

My oldest daughter was being bullied by this boy at school. I had bought her a green jacket with white fur around the neck and cuffs. This boy kept calling her the “Green Santa from Mars”. She reported it to the teacher and their was NO teacher intervention. She came home crying and told me about it. I told her well then she IS just going to have to deal with it herself.

Next day after school she called him out. Once off the school grounds they went at it with fists. She got a bloodied lip but HE NEVER called her “Green Santa from Mars” again.

I don’t believe SHE had to forgive him until HE UNDERSTOOD that he was causing her distress.

Question? Did Jesus forgive the money changers for defiling the temple?

Green Santa from Mars?

Wow. Even the insults were kinder years ago!

Kidding of course - he was obviously being a nasty person. Too bad that she didn’t pummel an apology out of the little twerp....she could have then forgiven him right on the spot.

Good question about the money changers....my guess is that He forgave everyone. He still, however, gave those money changers their comeuppance. Forgiveness doesn’t mean the avoidance of consequences...although I get the idea that has changed now.

Oh my. I just looked up the recipe for pasticcio. It looks so good!

When we buy our island, you and Dolly are definitely on kitchen duty. Lysie can still do her wonderful breakfasts, but you and Dolly have to manage lunch and dinner. And snacks. Oh, and round up Publius for Italian dinner at least twice a month. He’ll do the bacala and the linguine with anchovies.

So exciting.....now, let me see. Who can we get for all day desserts?

Forgiving strengthens us and frees us from a heavy and unhealthy weight which hinders our recovery from injury.

......

Very good, it does free us and does not depend on whether they apologize or not. If we don't forgive we allow the hurt to keep on hurting us, maybe not on the surface, but it is still there and is there to make us angry and resentful.

We might have a battle over that one.

I DO like having more light in the evening. So I would be happy if they were to keep it at daylight savings all year round.

**************************************************

Here in FL, we started losing daylight in the 2 o’clock hour. And we still have about a month more of ever-shorter days. By the end of December, the daylight will start to fade soon after lunch.

This fiddling with the time is so thoughtless to those of us who live right on the edge of the Central Time zone.

The fact that Rubio has made this his “passion” is the main reason I will never vote for him again.

Judy, my answer to you is not simple and you might or might not guess what I’d do when dealing with bullies if I were a school principal.

I would probably use some of your examples at times depending on circumstances.

I would definitely add one thing to your list and that would be calling in students who had been bullied and speaking with them about forgiving the bully, understanding that there are no external actions required for forgiveness but that it is an action of the soul and the mind.

I would explain that forgiveness can take a long time sometimes so to be patient with themselves.

Most importantly I would explain to them that forgiveness usually requires help from God so they should pray for the grace to truly forgive.

Finally, I would remind them that the bully might or might not be a kind person but that he will be able to change only with support from others so they should try their best to love the bully as they love themselves.

The second part of my response is that the situation presented in your example places me in charge of the bully.

In real life, most of the bullies I find myself dealing with aren’t hierarchically below me. Most are other adults who are my societal equals. This makes things much more interesting. :-)

I can’t take an adult bully by her collar and sit her down for a good talking-to, nor would I do that if I could.

Not my job and not a job I’d accept if offered.

Forgiveness is critically important in a civil society, even if it is one-sided and even if, like the people who crucified Christ, the bullies don’t actually ask for forgiveness.

When we demand an apology and receive it then choose to forgive, are we truly forgiving or are we accepting the justice we think we deserve?

When we forgive our enemies we free our hearts and souls from the burden of judging our enemies, which is a dangerous place for our souls because most of us have at least some bias toward our enemies and our judgement of them is likely to be incorrect.

Besides, Christ told us not to judge.

So, when we forgive, whether we act on it or not, we are always prepared to react to the forgiven person -and, indeed, to everyone - with joy and love.

This is what can bring peace and joy into our world.

:-)

I agree, norsky.

When we have an open wound it weakens us.

Forgiving helps heal that wound and then we can recover and become strong again.

yeah, I understand the spiritual concept of forgiveness, but to tell a child they have to forgive the bully that never stops being mean is just more cruelty. The victim has to forgive every day? There’s no strength building in that poor child.

CottonBall, of course children must be protected!

Also, they should be taught how to be strong so that they will be able to function well as adults.

Every circumstance is different.

I don’t believe that you really think I’d send a child to a bully every day and only tell them to forgive no matter what.

The reality is that there are mean people in the world and children will either be prepared to deal with them or not.

Part of that preparation, for the child’s future good, is to teach the child to forgive but to face their monsters, too.

Often the forgiveness process should happen only after the dragon has been vanquished.

:-)

I think we’re on the same team here, CottonBall, but with different perspectives.

It’s okay with me if you disagree!

Heaven knows I’m a work in progress!

“If we don’t forgive we allow the hurt to keep on hurting us, maybe not on the surface, but it is still there and is there to make us angry and resentful.”

What exactly are we/you forgiving? Can one REALLY forgive a murderer who shows NO real remorse?

I watched a show the other night who’s daughter was murdered. She HATED the murderer and it was eating on her. She FINALLY realized she had to FORGIVE HERSELF for those feelings. NOT that she had to forgive him. After she forgave herself she is now able to live at peace.

That is why I said earlier. When I pray I ask for forgiveness for myself. Because I don’t always know who or how I have offended someone. If I don’t ask for forgiveness for myself, it can eat away at me.

If people don’t let me know what I have done to offend them, I am not able to let them know I am sorry. When I do know I will apologize.
