A 16-year-old Texas high school runner has tragically collapsed and died at a cross-country meet after winning a race, according to local reports.
Angel Hernandez, a 16-year-old sophomore at Chisholm Trail High School, died suddenly just moments after breaking his personal time record.
Hernandez had just completed a 5K running race at a district track meet in Haltom City in Tarrant County on October 13 when he passed away.
Witnesses told KHOU that the teenager collapsed unexpectedly right after crossing the finish line.
The teen’s concerned friends walked him over to a water fountain where he collapsed again.
However, they were then unable to revive him.
He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead just an hour later.
Brent Brevard, who coached Hernandez at Chisholm Trail High School last year before retiring, said Hernandez was the ideal student-athlete.
“He worked hard and cared about his teammates,” Brevard told the outlet.
“But then he also acted right in school and took care of his grades.”
“He’s such a great kid, a likable kid, a good student, and it was awful news,” Brevard added.
Friends and family are desperate for answers as to why the young healthy teen could suddenly die.
The boy’s family has yet to receive any information from doctors about what caused the teen to collapse after running one of his best races.
Hernandez’s funeral was held on Friday.
At the funeral, Hernandez’s family was presented with a varsity letter jacket, KHOU reported.
Later that night at the high school’s homecoming football game, a moment of silence was held in his memory.
The teen also had a passion for martial arts and competed in competitions across the country, according to his obituary.
His karate coach, Ashley Wood, said that she has been comforting his devastated teammates since his death.
She said he showed no signs of illness before his collapse and was in peak physical health.
“He made you love him with his personality,” Wood told KHOU.
“He had an infectious smile.
“The moment of silence – it helps us know that he was loved by everyone.”
Wood launched a GoFundMe campaign to help Hernandez’s family cover funeral costs.
“It’s really hard,” she said.
“We’ll never get over it.
“We’ll never forget him.
“He’s going to be missed here, but he’s going to be loved always.”
Hernandez is survived by his parents, Antonio and Elsie Hernandez, and his younger brother, Mark Hernandez.
No cause of death has been revealed.
This is perfectly normal. Nothing to be alarmed about. Now go get your booster shot of perfectly safe and effective mRNA that isn’t a vaccine and that doesn’t do a damned thing about Covid.
Safe and...
“safe and effective mRNA”
Is it as safe as it is effective?
NOTE to reporters.. of CNN, ABC and NBC... be sure and ask, and tell us if these sudden deaths were people who had gotten the vaccination. Some of us who have curious minds think there may be a reason for all of these so called INSTANT deaths amoung youths. Or was it because they ate gluten, or drank Miller Lite. For some of us, SOMETHING IS OBVIOUSLY GOING ON HERE THAT THE SCIENCE REFUSES TO ADMIT.
“Is it as safe as it is effective?”
Sadly, yes.
But at least he would have been “protected” from severe illness, hospitalization, and/or death, if he had caught a cold... I mean, “COVID”.
In before the This has been happening for YEARS crowd.
Nothing to see, here....perfectly normal.
🙃
It has been happening for years.
Heart conditions and youth athletes
Sports-related deaths are mainly caused by coronary artery disease in adults and cardiomyopathy or arrhythmia in youths according to a 2018 review.
Other heart conditions, like myocarditis, can contribute to sudden cardiac death, but these conditions do not occur suddenly. Generally, a person with myocarditis would likely feel sick and not participate in the sport.
There is an occasion where bad outcomes like sudden cardiac arrest occur in an athlete. Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in young athletes. Estimates vary, but some reports suggest that about 1 in 50,000 to 1 in 80,000 young athletes die of sudden cardiac death each year. For comparison, the incidence of sudden cardiac arrest in the general population is about 1 in 1,000 people yearly.
Sudden cardiac death is often caused by faulty electrical signaling in the heart. A very fast heartbeat causes the lower heart chambers (ventricles) to quiver uselessly instead of pumping blood. This irregular heart rhythm is called ventricular fibrillation. Any condition that strains the heart or damages heart tissue can increase the risk of sudden death.
Well... his sedentary lifestyle along with decades of smoking and drinking - oh, wait a minute.
Do you know he was vaccinated for COVID? In Texas? Runners have collapsed and died unexpectedly for years. Jim Fixx, anyone?
These things have been happening FOR YEARS.
Except …. they have been happening with MUCH GREATER FREQUENCY over the last 2 years.
Unfortunately, many of us realize that the frequency will continue at this new, higher rate. Rate might even go higher.
The KarenVax strikes again.....
Thanks for your post of info.
Back when I was in HS, in the Stone Age, Coaches told us DO NOT DRINK A LOT OF WATER AFTER EXTEREME PHYSICAL EXERTION.
The reason was that you would dilute your electrolytes to the point that your heart and other muscles would not be able to be controlled by the nervous system.
This was before ‘Gatorade’ was available to everybody...............
Jim Fixx was 52 . . . HUGE difference.
Yep....as insistent as the DaisyDuke wearing $hot $hills are, we know better than to believe ANYTHING they’re (STILL) selling 😂
Forensic study just published found Pfizer hid cardiac deaths in the vaccinated arm of their report. Had they not done that, the world would have been aware of a 3.7 fold increase in cardiac deaths among the vaccinated.
Crimes are finally being revealed. https://t.co/Zjyw0hcmvB— Pierre Kory, MD MPA (@PierreKory) October 21, 2023
