For a second there, I read the thread title as “carbon monoxide”. The scientists could have then blamed man-made climate change on Earth as the reason! :p

We should be very careful here. Mankind will without a doubt travel to and send probes into the europiaean surface. There is very likely a culture under that ice that has existed for millenia. Their known universe is bordered by a sheet of ice that’s miles thick. If we drill through that with a probe swimming through with glaring lights and a hydrostatic drive. Imagine it if an alien civilization ripped open the fabric of our universe and intruded into our space. What might that look like. How may we react?

It’s an interesting thought experiment at the very least.
