Stanley Kubrick is considered one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. Of his 13 movies a few are considered classics in their respective genres. Including the black comedy Dr. Strangelove, the highly-quoteable anti-war commentary of Full Metal Jacket, and one of the most disturbing horror films of all time, The Shining.
But in 1968, Kubrick released "2001 - A Space Odyssey". This is more than a classic. It's a masterpiece. And widely regarded as one of the best science-fiction films of all time, and probably the most influential.
This collaboration with science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke tells the story of an alien intelligence that visited Earth in the distant past, and left behind artifacts in the solar system.
The movie (2001 - A Space Odyssey) features ground breaking special effects, which still hold up today.
In fact, the effects looked so good that the movie gave the American Government an idea.
Billions of tax dollars were invested in the space program but the Soviets were still years ahead of the United States.
NASA desperately needed to get to the moon before Russia, but they knew it was impossible. So they turned to one of the World's Best Filmmakers for help. Because when it came to the moon: if they couldn't make it, they'd fake it!

With science like that, you’ve proven that your screen name is actually your real name.
Six 3-man crews would disagree. I have dined with one of them. But ignorance seems to be rampant these days.
The reason we have never been back is the cost and a lack of political will.
The excerpt above states: “NASA desperately needed to get to the moon before Russia, but they knew it was impossible.”
Since getting to the moon is impossible, NASA wouldn’t be worried in the least about the Russians doing it.
Packaging “moon landing deniers” and “flat earthers” together—real class move.

It's not mere ignorance, it's willful, deliberate, weaponized rejection of knowledge.
There was little IT. The engineers who brought back 13 did it with pencils and slide rules.
Because everyone knows a flat earth couldn't be hollow.
And the monkeys look real too.
By what means did you learn about the Van Allen Belts?
Did the knowledge come to you in a dream? Spiritual Vision? Osmosis?
Or, did you perform research from an outside source?
They belong together along with 911 conspiracy nuts that think the towers were brought down by govt planted explosives. All nut jobs.
“Package deals” is the lowest form of intellectual discourse—dirty pool.
Jan presents herself has an expert on the Van Allen radiation belts, but appears to know nothing about them.
I suggest, sir, that you remain a spectator to this particular conversation.
Van Allen has written extensively on his belts. Read him!
These threads encourage idiocy. Has nothing to do with playing pool of any kind.
If you watch that episode to the END the host makes it clear that there’s nothign to the moon landing hoax. He debunks all the kooky “we didn’t land on the moon” stuff.
Even more unbelievable, the Space Shuttle was a fake too!
No human has ever been above 400 miles or so. Else, they will be fried by Van Allen charged particles which are similar to gamma and x-rays, only worse.
Or so the deniers say on their pitiful, poorly written, and researched blogs which are mostly the work of grade schoolers and those that never got beyond that.
ROFL!!!!
Just the lack of response I expected.
I heard he secretly wore suspenders!
