New Jersey gov. moves to implement EV sales mandate (joins NY, California & EU)

(The Center Square) - New Jersey will require car manufacturers to ramp up sales of electric vehicles leading to a ban on the sale of new fossil fuel-powered vehicles by 2035 under new rules proposed by Gov. Phil Murphy.

Murphy announced on Monday that he has filed the Advanced Clean Cars II proposal with the Office of Administrative Law that would, if approved, require vehicle manufacturers to make zero-emission vehicles an increasing percentage of their new light-duty vehicle sales, ramping up to 100% of vehicle sales by 2035.

By doing so, New Jersey joins New York, California and the European Union in banning new gas vehicle sales by 2035.

Murphy called the move a "commitment to every New Jersey family and the air they breathe" and said it "recognizes that New Jersey is just one crucial piece of our global response to climate change."

Murphy claims the new mandate won't impose any obligations on consumers or car dealers and provides "compliance flexibilities" for manufacturers, including a credit trading mechanism.

He has also signed New Jersey on to the Accelerating to Zero Coalition’s Zero Emission Vehicle Declaration, a global pact that will commit the state to a zero-emission vehicle future.

The Murphy administration says it has allocated $75 million to help meet demand for installation of EV charging stations at businesses, multi-unit residential buildings and public locations.

"As New Jersey continues experiencing the adverse impacts of climate change, we have the power and obligation to reduce its effects by limiting the emissions of climate pollutants," Shawn M. LaTourette, the state's environmental protection commissioner. said in a statement. “Through the adoption of zero-emissions vehicle standards, New Jersey can reduce its greatest source of climate damaging emissions, improve air quality and public health, and support a growing cleantech marketplace that will create...

Rename “Advanced Clean Cars II” to “Export Car Sales to Other States”. Are they going to block non-electric cars at the state boundary lines?

And it’s not just about EVs. Buc’ees has been getting incentives long before EVs.

Or adequately sized service cables and enough capacity on the transformer.

In my neck of the woods there are still plenty of existing homes without 200A services.

The owners can’t afford roof repairs, sewer or septic repairs, new furnaces, to get energy efficient windows...

But then EVs are about saving the planet the same way CoupFlu policy is about protecting public health.

--- "Tell it to the ChiComs."

It's interesting to think about China. The per capita income there is less than $15K, for all the ballyhoo about high speed rail and such, and their economy is predicated on selling much to us (and Europe), such that Freepers tell of how hard it is to shop for stuff not "made in China."

From "ghost cities" to EVs parked in fields of thousands and thousands, the image of China as successful seems like a mirage. A

As WSJ observes. "China's Housing Market Has Plenty of Space but Not Enough Buyers" (April 2023)

I wager the "one-eyed" top Chi-Coms are a bit like our Democrats and RINOs, seeming one thing but being quite another. Time will tell.

Certainly as time goes by and as people and nations "walk away," for being un-blinded, things will teeter and change. Best wishes.

And Deep State doesn’t care.

Because the real goal is to annihilate the middle class.

And Deep State’s war on us is going swimmingly!

I’m sure that’s what our Deep State has in mind for us.

Deep State’s concept of public service is that the public exists to serve its so-called public servants.

Yet another reason to leave New Jersey. The state governments of New York, California, New Jersey, et. al. seem dedicated to running productive and prosperous people out of their states. They are democratic in name only; due to election fraud, these states are self-perpetuating one party oligarchies.

Sure is.

I design the electrical distribution system. I have an inside peek as to the total BS of goals. Zero will be reached by stated timelines…zero.
Way too much work, a high average age of designer, and way too few workers of multiple positions.

Everywhere is hiring and can’t fill positions.
I get daily calls and emails about work from all over the country.

New Jersey will require “car manufacturers” to ramp up sales of electric vehicles , so they’ll break your legs if you don’t buy an EV ? LOL

Car dealers are already suffering with low inventories. Forcing to sell 100% EV Will be the death blow to dealers
I can see car lots now in 2035, only to have 3 or 4 cars on the lot and waaaaaaaay priced over MASP by tens of thousands.

Totally agree. Some eggheads have written long and deep about the "rent-seekers" of today, not capitalists in the sense of producing privately, but in the sense of living off of government positions. Fauci is a poster child for this, as of course are the Clintons and Obamas. all of whom produced nothing tangible but are rewarded mightily.

Our overlords don’t care if you buy a EV or not. They just want to take away your gas driven car. Its all about control.

“A Ford salesman I know grumbled that to get 100 F150’s his dealership had to agree to take 20 electric Mach-e’s. He said there was no market for the Mach-e’s. They couldn’t give them away.”

Reminds me of the old movie studio block booking system. If a movie theater wanted to show a studio’s first rate film, they had to agree to take and show a bunch of the studio’s films of lesser quality. This was done away with by the Supreme Court in 1948.
