Sucralose found to cause "significant health effects" affecting DNA in new study šŸ˜³

Oh no.

Sucralose, which you probably consume even if you don't know you do, has been found to damage DNA in a new study:

Sucralose, a chemical found in the popular zero-calorie sweetener Splenda, has been shown to cause damage to DNA, raise the risk of cancer and cause leaks in the gut lining, according to a new study from North Carolina State University.

Yep. For all these years you've been crushing that Diet Coke With Splenda like Quint himself...

...Turns out it might not have been such a great idea.

"Sucralose is utilized in tens of thousands of food, beverage, and pharmaceutical products worldwide," Susan Schiffman, an adjunct professor at North Carolina State University who led the study, told Newsweek. "For example, it is found in baked goods, beverages, chewing gum, gelatins, frozen dairy desserts, and pharmaceutical products."

Specifically the research found that a metabolite of sucralose, called sucralose-6-acetate, is "genotoxic," which the NIH says "is a chemical or agent that can cause DNA or chromosomal damage." This sort of thing can lead to cancer.

Sucralose was also shown to cause "leaky gut," which is precisely as awful as it sounds. And this isn't the first study to identify the risks from the chemical:

"Previous studies have shown a wide range of adverse effects from sucralose, including dysbiosis (including damage to good bacteria in the gut) and alteration of blood glucose and insulin."

Of course, one study doesn't necessarily prove anything. Researchers next week could come out saying that sucralose cures cancer and gives you wings made of gold.

But yeaaah I think I'll just opt for plain old sugar at the coffee shop next time.

People who intake a lot of HFCS are prime candidates for also having leaky gut. Lots of crossover there.

I've been using Truvia for 10-15 years, and buy it by the 400 pack, from Amazon:

Same here, I stay away from Truvia though, because it has erythritol. I canā€™t do any sweeteners ending in ā€œolā€ because it exacerbates ibs. Plus I pay careful attention where the stevia is sourced. The brand I use is sourced from SC, NC, Peru, and Mexico. None of the Chinese crap.

How many people’s diabetes is made worse because of what this is doing to their system? And actually, leaky gut, cancer, and heart disease are all as bad as diabetes.

Here is a thought: learn to enjoy food without sugar. It is possible. I you get off of sugar for 30 days and then try a candy or soda you will find it to be sickeningly sweet. Sugar is a poison that feeds cancer, contributes to heart disease, chronic inflammation, metabolic disease and, of course, diabetes. The best way to beat it is not with sugar substitute, but self-control.

Breast milk can also pass along cancer cells so don’t put it in your coffee.

Remember when eggs were good for you. Then they were the worse things ever. Now they’re good, again. Sugar is bad. Splenda is bad. So, we’re down to eating lettuce but only if we pick it ourselves.

If only the Lamestream media were one-tenth as diligent at investigating and reporting the risks associated with the Clot Shot.

At least your body has a long evolutionary history of dealing with sugar. Fake sugars, not so much.

Huge amounts of money are invested into developing these fake sweeteners. The FDA does some cursory studies on health effects, but the pressure is on to get it to market and the criteria is there be no significantly observable health effects within the period studied. This stuff has been on the market over 30 years and these effects are only now coming to light.

I have always been skeptical of this one in particular because it is a halogenated organic molecule and I first heard of it right around the same time as I was learning about how organo-halides are generally very bad for your health.

Your sister probably consumed other carbohydrates in amounts too large for her pancreas to handle. As a general rule most adults over thirty should begin limiting their intake of carbohydrates. Diabetes is more than just an over consumption of sugars and starches. Other factors like genetics and physical conditioning also play a part.

I see a bunch of posters jumping to conclusions.

I don’t think Diet Coke uses Sucralose. It uses aspartame.

I can’t drink sugar sodas, they’re too sweet. I’ve taken the aspartame ones for decades with no problem.

Fortunately, I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. Black coffee, no sodas. Dark chocolate cravings occur during hurricanes. I’ve never trusted fake sweeteners, or acetaminophen either.

Yeah, I still eat a good amount of carbs, but I usually only eat 2 meals a day and only one of them is a large meal so I don’t have too many issues.

about 20 years ago I had a live blood microscopy where they take a drop of your blood put it under a microscope and show it on a TV screen, the guy said you’d be great if you’d just stop the artificial sweetener, I said I use Splenda and HE said why don’t you just drink chlorox, they process that with chlorine. He said look at the screen, see the pieces of what look like tree bark, that is the Splenda in your blood. I asked what he recommended and he said the natural brown sugar in the brown packets, I’ve adopted that and the last microscopy showed I needed more oil as in Vit E, my blood was clumpy.

I’ve lost 50 pounds in past six months on a diet in which I am never hungry.

1) Intermittent fasting. For me, 18 hr fast, 6 hrs eat. I’m working on eating one meal a day.

2) I eat all I want BUT less than 10 carbs. That means I eat a lot of meat and fat. As Dr Berry on YouTube says: Beet, butter, bacon and eggs. Yum. I never get hungry. Plus my A1C went from 5.8 down to 5.4. My doctor was so excited...called me up. Course I did not tell her the diet I was on - just that I was on low carb and fasting.
My psoriasis is gone. Stomach issues gone. Skin great condition. Hair shiny and thicker. Energy increased. Yes. Hard to believe, but true. I am 77 yo

True!
Manitol, sorbitol are mild laxatives used to sweeten sugarless gums and candies. They are also used for the elderly and children to help with constipation.

I found out so many things in my years as a Med. Tech!

Those aforementioned sweeteners can trigger your IBS, and that could happen at inopportune times!
Read your labels everyone!
