Fallout shelters can cost millions of dollars. But this DIY underground bunker costs about $1,000.
You wouldn't want to live in this makeshift underground bunker forever.
In a pinch, this DIY fallout shelter would be better than an above-ground building, an expert said.
In the event of nuclear war, the ultra-rich can hide away in their luxury bunkers that cost anywhere from $35,000 to $14 million. But what about the rest of us?
Turns out, if a nuclear attack is imminent, you can build your own DIY fallout shelter for relatively cheap.
You would just need a couple of days' time, some equipment, and ideally a bunker-building buddy.

If you stay down for even 7 days most of the zombies will be dead. If you can hold out 30 days it's nearly certain.
I have a desk. And I am prepared to get under it. I’ll be fine.
Wow. Back to this. Yep. Biden’s America, talkin’ bout cheap nuclear bomb shelters now.
This reminds me of 1960 all over again and the rush to build fallout shelters.

Was in grammar school in the 50's. We had regular air-raid drills, although I don't know what good they were. They used to take us out into the hall to sit quietly along the walls on either side of the building wing. There were windows up and down the hall, so there wouldn't have been much protection if they had dropped the big one.
