A South Carolina gas station owner has been charged with murder for shooting a 14-year-old armed teenage boy in the back because he thought he'd stolen bottled water.
Rick Chow, 58, is the owner of a Shell gas station in Columbia, South Carolina. On Sunday night at 8pm, Cyrus Carmack-Belton, a 14-year-old teenager, entered his store while visiting family in town.
Chow and his adult son - who police say are regularly besieged by shoplifters - suspected Cyrus of trying to steal bottled water.
Surveillance footage proves he did not take anything. When Chow and his son confronted Cyrus, he started running away.
Chow's son gave chase, running after him into the street. It was then that he realized the 14-year-old was armed, and shouted to his father that he had a gun.
Chow, who owns a pistol, shot Cyrus once in the back and the teenager died as a result.
Now, the store owner has been charged with murder.

Sounds like a reasonable charge.
Yes shoplifters should be confronted and stopped.
But getting shut in the back over a single bottle of water the kid did not take, is not justified.
Sweet little teen boy. So sad. Not.
” It was then that he realized the 14-year-old was armed, and shouted to his father that he had a gun”
What is reasonable about that?
Yeah. No armed teenager would ever intend to steal.
Why is a 14 year old armed?.....................
Clearly, a 14 year old kid should not be carrying a gun, but unless he pulled it out, that’s not gonna be a valid defense for this guy.
And how did they know the 14 year old had a gun unless he brandished it ?
Isn't possession of a firearm by a minor a criminal offense ?
Did the 14 year old point the firearm at the store owner or his son ?
There is much more to this story which needs to be made public before any reasonable comments about this incident can be made.
“You have to be defending someone’s life or your life. There has to be immediate danger to you.
‘Someone who is running away, has no indication the he is pointing a gun at anyone while he’s running away, he was shot in the back.”
That’s debatable and the case the defense attorney will have to make to the jury.
Let’s not repeat the narrative that the alleged shoplifter was shot over merchandise. Obviously not the case.
Depends on if the kid raised his weapon or not...if so then it’s self defense.
Either way I don’t understand these Asians and I know we have them on this forum.
Why on earth do they have their stores in black communities? Why not in white ones? Have they not learned by now?
Mr Chow more so. Even in China they don’t trust blacks over there, I read stories during the Olympics of it. So why do they put their stores in black communities over here?
You dont shoot people in the back. Even if he took a bottle of water.
Shot because if the hundreds (thousands) of other times people of the community shoplifted in that store.
The charges are correct regardless.
Lots of equivocation from blacks on FB. Maybe the store owners planted it. Maybe it’s an airsoft.
He didn’t get shot over a bottle of water, he got shot because he pulled his own gun.
