Hebron, New York (WCSO) – According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on April 15, 2023 at approximately 9:53 PM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a female that had possibly been shot near Cemetery Road in the Town of Salem. As patrols responded to the scene, additional 911 calls came in reporting that shots had been fired from a residence on Patterson Hill Road in the Town of Hebron.
Upon arriving at the first scene on Cemetery Road, Deputies discovered a female who had been in a vehicle and was a victim of a gunshot wound. She was identified as Kaylin A. Gillis, age 20 of Schuylerville, New York. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Through the preliminary investigation it was learned that the vehicle the victim was in mistakenly pulled into the driveway at the Patterson Hill Road address. The homeowner fired at least two shots, one of which struck the victim while she was a passenger in a vehicle.
Through investigative efforts it was determined that the person who fired the shots was Kevin D. Monahan. Monahan was uncooperative with the investigation and refused to exit his residence to speak with police. He was later taken into custody with the assistance of the New York State Police Special Operation Response Team after several hours.
Monahan was arrested and charged with Murder in the 2nd degree. He was then transferred to the Warren County Jail to be held.
“This is a very sad case of some young adults who were looking for a friend’s house and ended up at this man’s house who decided to come out with a firearm and discharge it,” Sheriff Murphy said.

Trespassing is a criminal offense. Ae you requesting that I be soft on crime or have my 2nd Amendment rights infringed?
Younger generation relies too much on 'apps' and 'GPS'.
Did the man fear for his life? I don't know...I was n't there, and neither were any 'Freepers'.
Not saying whether it was right or wrong, just considering the possibilities.
(Hikers and such are caught crossing thru homeowner's yards all the time in my area...when informed that they are 'trespassing', the response is 'Just passing thru'.)
Cemetery Road. That was convenient.
Seems like there is a new Anti-2A narrative being cooked up by the Biden-cabal. I guess they’re cognizant that crazies intentionally shooting people isn’t working with their current narrative so now they are going to switch to firearm “accidents” in order to try and disarm us.
I’m suggesting that you are apparently a mentally deranged lunatic and yes your right to possess a firearm should be rescinded.
But not a Capital offense, is it? False dichotomy...
Another guy follows Biden’s home defense advise and gets arrested for it.
“Don’t trespass, don’t get shot.”
In most places, shooting someone for simple trespass is not legally justifiable.
State to state there is some variation in the use of deadly force. This instance, without a gate and/or No Trespassing sign, shooting into a car turning into a driveway appears to be stupidly criminal and in no way is sensible on its face.
“Hikers and such are caught crossing thru homeowner’s yards all the time in my area...when informed that they are ‘trespassing’, the response is ‘Just passing thru’.”
Legally, in most places, if you don’t have a fence up and signs notifying them that trespassing is forbidden, then there’s not much you can do besides ask them to leave. You could call the cops, but without those things, the cops will not arrest someone for trespassing even if they did cross onto your property.
I remember the old advice to never talk to strangers.
If I am home alone, I don’t answer the door if it is a stranger. If they start fiddling with my door, I go grab a weapon and then call 911.
That’s my plan, anyway. It hasn’t ever happened to me.
Doesn’t matter if you were the trespassee and you’re dead.
Driving onto someone’s driveway, absent prominent “no entry” or “do not trespass” signs or barricades such as a locked gate that must be defeated does not constitute trespassing. There are legitimate reasons to drive into stranger’s driveways and (gasp!) even walk up to the door. Deliveries, salesmen, etc. This guy will have to convince the authorities that he genuinely feared for his life. Doubt he will be successful
Even without a gate and/or No Trespassing sign, the shooting would still be unjustified both by law and commonsense. Anyone who justifies this shooting is too stupid and irresponsible to have a firearm, simple as that. It’s because of idiots like this that we get gun control laws.
Things won’t be going “all peaceful” over this one.
I didn’t know turning around in someone’s driveway was a lethal force situation now.
There was a time when a drunk chick knocking on your door ended in a good story.
White women don’t matter (to mainstream media).
NY gun control doesn’t work.
Not sure it is, but from a pic at the story, that’s more of a drive that passes a detached garage on the left, then up a ways, the house on the right.
Definitely not a suburban driveway one pulls into and backs out of.
