Investigators say the suspect's parents felt the 28-year-old should not own weapons, and did not realise the guns had been concealed in their house.
Six people, including three children age nine, were killed in the attack at the Covenant School.
The suspect was under "doctor's care for an emotional disorder", police say.
Tennessee has no laws that allow police to seize guns from violent suspects.
Despite the absence of such so-called red-flag laws, police said they would still have sought to have the weapons confiscated if authorities had had any warning that the suspect could have posed a threat.

Notice the pattern of Police hiding the evidence when it’s not what the Woke Police Chiefs want.
At Michigan State, the dude was dead and had a letter in his pocket when they found him, and he wanted to kill white pole. They hid it until everyone moved on.
There is simply no innocent explanation for hiding the Manifesto. They want to keep saying mentally ill, when you can say that about every shooter, but they don’t when it’s some people.
Remember when Trump was Prez, they blamed every shooting on him, said it starts at the top.
WTH? Not sure you need training to shoot down from a second story window.
That's a load.
The ones closest to the situation ALWAYS know.
I thought mental issues automatically prevented gun ownership. (statement by another FReeper)Only when a person is adjudicated mentally deficient by a court of law. IOWs you get the due process of facing your accusers and your own lawyer to rebut the accusation.
I hope that doesn't change but Red Flag Laws are doing their best to overturn that so your aggrieved spouse, neighbor, co-worker, employer, online screwball can file a complaint and have your guns permanently taken from you.
It may seem like a tough thing that you can't take guns from someone with mental problems without going through a formal legal procedure like that but answer me this ... do you think they'll be taking guns from trannys or conservatives with those laws?
28 years old and still living at home?
It makes a difference a longer range.
Not here.
The Police are not always the best at communicating to the public.
Did he mean “higher level” as in training? Not altitude.
What does the 4473 say about prescription meds, or being under a doctors care for mental illness and purchase of firearms?
Supposedly the governor of Tennessee has some prsonal connections to people involved with this tragedy so get ready and bend over Tennesseans.....you’re probably going to start losing civil rights.
That’s pretty common these days.
TN has an involuntary commitment law.
Did anyone try that?
If so, what was the outcome?
And if there wasn’t enough to commit the perp, then there wasn’t enough to seize firearms, either.
Where’d she get the money for guns?
Gov assistance?
Did she have a job?
I think you can be on any number of prescribed drugs (with subscription) and nutty as a fruitcake in a doctor’s opinion, but unless you’ve been adjudicated mentally unfit, it doesn’t prohibit purchase from an FFL dealer.
Most people tend to shoot high when firing down at a distance.
I hunt in pretty hilly country. My preferred load is a 180 gr. 30 caliber bullet I’m zeroed at about 150 yards. Shooting downhill, beyond that range, I can still hold pretty much dead on, and the bullet drop from added range is compensated for by the downward angle. Same applies to shooting uphill. but that is seldom the case.
Too bad she hadn’t received proper mental health counseling years before when she first diagnosed with gender dysphoria and helped her sort out her confusion.
Nothing about prescription meds.
As far as mental health...
“Have you ever been adjudicated mentally defective” or “committed to a mental institution”. That wording may have been updated.
Basically any involuntary mental commitment excludes you from buying a firearm. If you do it voluntarily it doesn’t.
He may have inadvertently hinted about what the manifestos says. Maybe he had some evidence that she attended one of those trans firearms training events that they hold.
This just keeps getting worse and worse. It seems like every time something like this happens, the shooter turns out to be a lone but known wolf. Or wolfess.
