A couple in San Francisco was told to remove an obstruction from the sidewalk in front of their house, or pay a $1,402 fine. The city's target: a little free library.
The library is part of a crackdown in San Francisco on unpermitted objects that interfere with public ways, the Wall Street Journal reported. The city has a hotline for anonymous tips about the obstructions, which include decades-old awnings on businesses in the city's Chinatown district, and benches constructed by residents for the convenience of passersby.
The library, a sturdy wooden box that sits on a statue and resembles a dollhouse, is owned by Susan and Joe Meyers.

It is blocking the sidewalk. They could easily contain it within their yard and people still be able to access it. City is correct.
There are a few around here. I find sodden books in the woods. I imagine the homeless use them to start fires. Probably a source of toilet paper in SF.
By that rationale, they could ask that the tents be removed from the sidewalks. Not gonna happen.
I’d probably just move it if someone complained, its hardly worth the headache but jeez...I can’t imagine even complaining about something like this.
Reading’s for fags.
Bureaucrats gonna bureaucrat. They can’t crack down on the homeless citizens blocking sidewalks so they pick on the little people who aren’t really causing any public harm. Just like the gun banners who want to take firearms from law abiding citizens and refuse to lock up the criminals who use them.
Change its designation from a library to a tiny house - for the homeless.
The city rules. It’s a public sidewalk....not for your little hobby. Find another spot.
It would have been fine with the city if they took up twice the space with a free needle and syringe kiosk.
Unless it’s a garbage bag or a person in a tent. Then it’s OK. Don’t really have any sympathy because they’re dumb enough to live in the City but they’re only being fined because they will pay it.
How will the liberals signal their virtue if the little libraries are torn down?
Gotta go where the money is.
Anarcho-tyranny.
San Francisco uppozes liturasee.
