Mercyhurst University is conducting an investigation after a video emerged appearing to show one of their student-athletes pushing a disabled student’s wheelchair down the stairs at a local nightclub.
According to Fox News, a video showed Carson Briere, who plays on the school’s hockey team and is the son of the Philadelphia Flyers interim general manager Daniel Briere, walking up the stairs with a friend. After talking to another man, the two of them appeared to take the wheelchair from the corner and roll it down the stairs.
The wheelchair apparently belonged to a disabled young woman, who is also a student at the university, and she had to be carried down the stairs afterward to use the bathroom.
Mercyhurst University responded to the firestorm that erupted on social media after the video emerged, saying that they were conducting an investigation into the affair.
“Late this afternoon, Mercyhurst University became aware of a disturbing video in which one of our student-athletes is seen pushing an unoccupied wheeler chair down a flight of stairs at a local establishment. Our Office of Student Conduct and Department of Police and Safety are investigating,” the university wrote on social media.

“ When I was growing up, he would have received a beatdown requiring him to be in a wheelchair for a few months, just so he feels the pain”
******************************************
For sure. And it’s a mystery to me why his “friend” didn’t immediately say “WTF are you doing” and rectify the situation right then and there.
Not dismissive however not worth the time.
“Non story unless a person with no legs was stuck there all night.”
Very dangerous stunt he pulled.
There was a blind corner at the bottom of the stairs. Had someone stepped around the corner at the time he released the chair it would have been E=MC2.
But the young athlete was not concerned about that.
Well, I would assume it’s because they hope the reader will automatically assume the perpetrator is some privileged white jock frat boy without actually having to say that.We who we all know they are responsible for all evil in the world.
“she had to be carried down the stairs afterward to use the bathroom”
I’m a little confused by this. Did the nightclub have an elevator or something? Otherwise how did she plan to tackle the stairs even if they hadn’t pushed her wheelchair down them?
When someone takes or destroys those devices they are making life unnecessarily difficult for you.
In this case, for no reason.
Imagine you are an adult and you, because of the actions of some meat head, have to ask some one to carry you to the bathroom so you can either pee or poop. This person will then have to help you on to the toilet and wait while you relieve yourself and then help you off the toilet and carry you back.
That is what happened here.
But no big deal you say.
Whatever.
Evidently, you have no knowledge of what types of handicaps have need of wheelchairs....Maybe someday, you’ll learn...
How about you ask Jim Robinson how he’d handle you doing this to his wheelchair?
Well, he should be crucified regardless because he's a hockey player and a young man and nobody here did anything crazy after a couple of drinks.
If we can't crucify him maybe we can get him canceled.
Just another illustration of the dire straights we're in.
“the firestorm that erupted on social media....”
So nobody that was there had a problem with it but as soon as it hit social media everybody was outraged?
I’m really glad I grew up in a time before the digital age. SMH
The young lady’s chair was empty because she had been carried downstairs to use the bathroom. The perp is a trouble-maker.
Nahhh, they (lefty nerds) just hate ALL jocks.
Probably has something to do with the Catholic apologists that are in significant numbers. Catholics can do no wrong...
“The young lady’s chair was empty because she had been carried downstairs to use the bathroom.”
Ah, that makes a lot more sense. The article made it sound like she was planning to use the wheelchair to get downstairs but had to be carried because the wheelchair was missing, which was a bit of a head scratcher.
Thank you!
If you hadn’t said it, I would have.
If someone had done that to my wheelchair I would be pissed!
Typical ignorance i deal with all the time. If I’m not in my chair, it doesn’t mean I don’t need it.
Freepers making ignorant comments about this are the same ones who park in handicap parking “just for a minute” because it’s empty.
True, he didn’t intend to cause physical pain to the girl, but an adequate punishment is needed besides an apology.
Perhaps his punishment should be to carry her around the rest of the school year. He needs a little humility more than to make restitution or apologize.
Headline accomplishes three things. Implies privileged (oppressive) white (evil) hockey (mean sport) player.
Okay. It’s a devilish thing to do. A stupid prank, but the girl was not in the chair. Yes, she was inconvenianced, no, she didn’t break any bones.
Let’s not go overboard trying to prove how ‘good’ we are by condemning and punishing somebody for a dumb prank.
A simple apology will do.
He need not be Drawn & Quartered over this.
