Kisspeptin hormone injection could treat low sex drive in women and men
Medical Xpress / Imperial College London / JAMA Network Open ^ | Feb. 3, 2023 | Layla Thurston et al

The hormone kisspeptin could be used to treat women and men distressed by their low sexual desire, according to two studies.

The studies found that giving kisspeptin can boost sexual responses in women and men who have hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD)—a condition characterized by low sexual desire that is distressing to the individual.

Kisspeptin is a naturally-occurring hormone that stimulates the release of other reproductive hormones inside the body.

Kisspeptin administration improved sexual brain processing in both women and men, resulting in positive effects on sexual behavior compared to placebo. These are the first clinical studies to explore the ability of kisspeptin to boost sexual pathways in women and men distressed by their low sexual desire.

The researchers believe that the results lay the foundations for kisspeptin-based treatments for women and men with HSDD.

The team found that kisspeptin improved sexual and attraction brain activity in key brain areas in women. They also found that women who were more distressed by their sexual function showed greater kisspeptin-enhanced brain activity in the hippocampus (a key structure implicated in female sexual desire). Furthermore, the more kisspeptin activated the posterior cingulate cortex—a key behavioral brain area—in response to attractive male faces, the less sexual aversion was reported by participants. Crucially, the psychometric analyses revealed that the women reported feeling "more sexy" during kisspeptin, compared to placebo.

The study demonstrated that kisspeptin significantly boosted brain activity in key structures of the sexual brain network while also increasing penile rigidity by up to 56% compared to placebo, while viewing an erotic video. Similarly to the study in women, kisspeptin also had greater effects in key brain regions in men more distressed with their low sexual desire. Furthermore, psychometric analyses revealed that kisspeptin improved "happiness about sex" reported by the men.

The same perverts who name bird species apparently.

Fluffy backed tit babbler?

Brown boobies?

European shag?

Big breasted tit?

Southern screamer?

Great tits?

Woodcock?

Red shafted flicker?

Andean cock-of-the-rock?

Your fourth example seems to not be a real bird.

In “tit(mouse)”, the first syllable comes from an Anglo-Saxon word meaning “small”; hence, “titmase” means small bird. Most of the examples of these birds are referred to as chickadees in the US.

There was no vulgar use of the word “shag” originally, since it came from an old Nordic word meaning “wool”. The species of cormorant referred to would refer to the shaggy appearance of the bird’s crest.

Second last bird named is more commonly known as the northern flicker; the last-named bird is also called the tunki.

Kisspeptin treatment requires a 75-minute monthly infusion administered by a medical tech. This seems like a non-starter both from a lifestyle and cost standpoint.

Vyleesi (bremelanotide) is already approved by the FDA for HSDD in pre-menopausal women. It is administered by the patient as-needed using a subcutaneous injection in the leg or abdomen an hour before sexual activity. Given Vyleesi’s FDA approval and lower provider cost, it seems unlikely Kisspeptide would also get approved for HSDD by the FDA.

Vyleesi has been growing in prescriptions for a few years, but the makers, Palatin Technologies, are too small to advertise it and there is a real resistance from doctors to prescribe a drug that improves female sexual desire. Even in this day of generic Viagra, some things are considered taboo.

The cost for Vyleesi subcutaneous solution (1.75 mg/0.3 mL) is around $956 for a supply of 1.2 milliliters,
Common side effects are vomiting due to the high cost of this drug.

We have many tufted titmouse birds every day at our feeders. Quite different than the two species of chickadees that also visit daily.
