Sad but true.
There are basically 2 branches of translations of the Bible. translations are not versions they are...translations.
The king James and the NKJV are translations of the Textus Receptus which was the manuscript used by the catholic church to translate into the Latin Vulgate. It had some problems, but was doctrinally true to the original Greek manuscripts.
Other translations, such as NIV NASB, etc. use a collection of the best Greek manuscripts that we possess. We have a total of a little over 5800 copies of the text. This is important for weeding out copyist mistakes or additions. Say we had 5800 copies of Shakespeare's Macbeth, We find variances in maybe 200 but the other 5600 agree with each other. There is a pretty good bet that the 5600 are correct and some error entered somewhere that corrupted the 200 variant copies. That is a very simplified version of how New Testament translations try to make sure they are faithful to the original autographs which we do not have.
We also have the writings of the early church fathers in which they extensively quote from the Scriptures. We could recreate virtually the entire new testament from their writings.
The earliest manuscript copies we have are from around 130 A.D. which, historically is very close to the actual events. For contrast, the earliest mention we have of Alexander the Great is plus 400 years after the events, furthermore there is only one copy. However, few if any question the authenticity of the stories surrounding Alexander... Telling.
There is only one version of the Holy Bible, it is the one which God revealed to men through the writings inspired by the Holy Spirit. All other books claiming to be scripture are unholy.

Yeah, we finally got the picture. Neighbor was freaking. DH told him probably Elon’s satellites and when I posted on the thread, everyone pointed that out. I do not see the obvious plenty of times. Usually it’s cloudy at night in the winter so we don’t see the stars constantly.
That’s a very good summary of Bible translations. I read somewhere that the Geneva Bible was also used in the translation of the KJV. My favorite translation is the KJV but I like the English Standard Version also. The first Bible I ever bought was in 1976 and it was the New English Bible. It’s a work of art and I refer to it often.

Doctrine is the explanation and application of Scripture, translations have the burden of being Scripturally correct, not doctrinally.
Doctrine can be extracted from anything someone calls Scripture.

Didn't that happen on Mount Moriah, the old city of Jerusalem? You could say that God Himself provided the sacrifice and he did as Jesus Christ.

I’m sorry for piling on, lj. I’m away and spending every day at the golf course. I’ve been pretty far behind on the thread and didn’t see (or look for - shame on me) all the responses until I kept reading. I declined a dinner invitation so I could just chill tonight and get caught up on a lot of things.
