In a hypothetical presidential matchup, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis would garner more support against President Joe Biden than former President Donald Trump would, a new poll from Marquette University finds.
Forty-five percent of registered voters preferred DeSantis, versus 38% of registered voters who preferred Biden in a hypothetical matchup between the two.
In a hypothetical contest between Biden and Trump, the two were even, each gaining 40% of registered voters' preference.
Just among Republican voters and independents who lean Republican, DeSantis had a slightly higher favorability rating. Seventy-one percent of those voters said they have a favorable view of DeSantis, while 70% said they had a favorable view of Trump.
Among that same group of voters, ten percent said they had an unfavorable view of DeSantis while 28% had an unfavorable view of Trump.
Republican voters and Republican-leaning independent voters also preferred DeSantis as the eventual Republican presidential nominee over Trump by 28 percentage points, as 64% of this group of voters preferred DeSantis as the nominee, compared to 36% who said they preferred Trump to be the nominee.

Yes, I know. I keep hoping that he will come to his senses before this issue torpedoes his future in politics. It is maddening.

Former President Donald Trump is continuing to maintain a sizable lead in a hypothetical 2024 Republican primary race, the latest survey from Morning Consult found.
The data showed Trump garnering support from nearly half of those surveyed — 49 percent. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) falls 19 points behind with 30 percent support.
Trump had a 40 point lead over DeSantis in Morning Consult's August '22 polling. What happened?
Yes, he did enjoy a little bump after Biden got hemmed up in his own classified documents scandal and yet, over 50% of the party does not want him in '24.
He's the former GOP president and, as of now, the only guy running.
TRUMP is destined to be president. His job is not finished, and DeSantis would be wise to support him.
Run as his VP and then serve 2 terms as President and we may have a country back with that combo.
Ron DeSantis flipped former blue strongholds in Florida red, undoubtedly earning the votes of many Floridians who voted for Andrew Gillum four years prior.
He would bring Florida with him, but get killed in Pa, Georgia, Michigan that thanks to Dem voting games are goners...
These states were lost because of lousy candidates (except for Brian Kemp in Georgia who was easily re-elected).
Don't tell me that Georgia is rife with fraud after the Democrats dumped millions into Stacey Abram's race only to see her crash in flames like the Hindenburg.
DeSantis easily flips GA and AZ, two states desperate to elect Republicans, just not "Trumpy" Republicans. He could flip VA as well, with the same pro-parent strategy Youngkin used.
That's 272 EVs and the keys to the White House.

Hence my comment that it is so early in the campaign, which is when all the wildest projections show up.
