Why Aren't More Straight People on PrEP?
HIVPlusMag ^ | January 10, 2023 | Andrew Stillman

Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, is the number one form of HIV prevention, but marketing efforts for the medication are historically targeted towards men who have sex with men.

While this community is largely at a higher risk for HIV, this has left an open gap in messaging for the heterosexual community.

In 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that heterosexual people made up 22 percent of the 30,635 new HIV diagnoses that year.

Perceptions that HIV is a “gay disease” play a part in the struggle to broaden the message for HIV care.

Are you saying heterosexuals are 0.00204212121% of the population?

I asked my GP during my last physical what was going on with all the Hep C and HIV ads on TV. I can’t watch one show without getting hit over the head with them.

He looked at me and asked if I was serious. When I said yes, he simply said “Do you do drugs and do you have unprotected sex with multiple partners?” I told him no, which he knew, and said I would have been a real bummer at parties in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. And that told me all I need to know about why there are so many Hep C and HIV ads on TV right now.

I’m with you on lifestyle choices. That’s no ones business but their own. But don’t expect to run wild in the streets without consequences, and don’t expect science to find a fix for whatever ill you bring to society that pops up next.

A twitter user with bad long COVID symptoms was convinced by another twitter user with HIV that uses Truvada that it might help. It did help the symptoms, but a the cost of serious loss of kidney function. The Truvada usage had to be stopped. Antivirals beat up on the liver and kidneys. It's a tradeoff similar to using Lasix for those with congestive heart failure. You need to balance the kidney damage against being able to breathe with CHF. My mom went through that for months before cancer in both lungs overshadowed the CHF.

So didnt they decide to allow homosexual blood doners recently?

The Gaystapo has been applying immense political pressure to the FDA to remove ALL restrictions to deviants donating blood. With massive success.

In 2015, under Obama, the FDA modified the deferral period for men who have had sex with men from a lifetime ban to one year since last sexual contact. In 2020, presumably because of the “pandemic” and reduced donations, the deferral period for MSM was reduced to 3 months since last sexual contact. But that is not good enough for the sodomites. The FDA is now considering eliminating even THAT short deferral period in deference to a “behavioral assessment” questionnaire, which still won’t satisfy the sodomites.

AIDS and HIV are male gay and male bisexual diseases.

Women do not get it from women and heterosexuals do not get it unless they sleep with someone infected from a bisexual man.

I paid $25/month for my healthcare coverage for a family of 5 in 1991. A few years later, the politicians invented "gay marriage", partners and required employers to provide healthcare coverage to the significant other gay partner. My healthcare premiums are now $1100 per month with a $6900 deductible for employee and spouse. The kids are off the nest. I suspect a strong correlation.

Yep. HIV/AIDS is a wholly “gay”-centric disease in the Americas. Always has been and always will be.

“I’ll bet that a lot of these “heterosexuals” contracting HIV are getting some same-sex action on the side.”

Or they are dating a “bisexual”.

I remember liberals saying "you can't get AIDS from eating food served by someone with AIDS" or "you can't get AIDS by partaking in team sports with someone with AIDS", or some such similar situation.

However at the same time they would say that "anyone can get AIDS".

It is the disease that is both the most difficult and most easiest to catch.

Liberal logic.

Because most straight men do not dip their wick into a dozen strange wells on a weekly basis.

Arthur Ashe...the great tennis star...died of AIDS contracted from a blood transfusion he got during major heart surgery. Apart from that the only reason for a normal man,or woman,to worry about AIDs is if you're doing something immoral or abnormal or doing something with someone who does immoral, abnormal things.

“And I’ll bet money the vast majority of those 22 percent were junkies, prostitutes, or pornographic “performers”.”

Then add the unfortunate female partners of bisexual men.

My doctor tried to get me to submit to an HIV test early last.

When I asked why she thought I should have one when I wasn’t at risk, she replied it was because I wasn’t married.

So I guess that makes me a whore in her eyes, I told her.

And then I asked how many non-drug addicted women with an average of one or fewer sexual partners per decade in the U.S. who are HIV positive is. She couldn’t tell me.

When she can cite a credible source that that number is higher than the number of non-obese women under 70 who were hospitalized due to Covid is, then I might start to be a teensy bit concerned that I should be tested.
