My Mother told the story of little Jimmy who lived a few doors down in the 1930's and 1940's.   He was slow and had to stay home when all of the other children went to school.   One day Mrs. G. had to leave the house to do a very important errand, but there as an apple tree in the front yard with a very large prized apple on it that the family had been anxiously awaiting it getting as big as possible before they would pick it.   So, before she left, Mrs. G told Jimmy, don't you dare pick that prized apple from that tree.

When the family got home that afternoon they found an apple core hanging on the tree.
